Hey so I just bought a 7 bolt that was freshened up so timing wasn’t done too long ago and my water pump pulley was wobbling so since the motor is out of the car I’m gonna be installing a new water pump and re timing it now my question is Do I have to re time the balance shafts or can I skip the balance shafts since they were done recently ? -thanks

Just make sure the timing mark lines up when everything is at tdc. If you’re gonna remove the belt, might as well replace it to be safe

Great tutorial, been through all this, I got my balancer deleted and front turned down to get rid of the belt. You could show the top end cam line up too

Didn't want to limit this video to just Evos. Cam timing is different depending on the application. On Evos the notch on the cam gears align with the notches on the valve cover. On DSMs the notch on the cam gears align with each other.

Would you be able to give me the serial number of the tensioner tool you used on that pulley?

There are a multi-tude of different companies that make them. They are a Tennsion Pulley Spanner Tool made for Mitsubishi/ Eagle/ Plymouth/ Chrysler vechiles. Here is a URL for one made my Schley, Part Number SLY98700. www.nationaltoolwarehouse.com/Mitsubishi-Plymouth-Eagle-Tension-Pulley-Spanner-Wrench-P125133.aspx

I installed the timing belt on my engine using the same method and making sure that the grenade pin still fit smoothly after rotating the motor, but it’s pretty loose at tdc. Any idea why this could be? Here’s a video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYKsnmRrpr9qqqs

From your video that looks normal. I did notice when you moved the belt about a 1/4 turn the belt tightened up. That is common with timing in these motors. Keep in mind that the tensioner works like a shock absorber. So as the belt rotates the tensioner is going up and down. Also you don't want to over tighten the belts because in doing so this leaves the possibly of killing your oil pump.

That tensioner is the most unnecessary thing on the 4g63, atleast hyundai removed it
