My car’s timing is off because a mechanic shop screwed it off. I don’t know what part they screwed exactly that caused timing to be off, but when car is idling, the ignition timing fluctuates between 8-16 degrees when it should actually be around 5 degrees +/- 3 degrees. I’m pretty nervous to do this timing job on my car since I’ve never done it before and incredibly nervous I’ll mess something up, but I’m hoping that after disassembling everything and reassembling properly, everything should be fixed. After the mechanics screwed the car up, there’s also an oil leak coming from the timing area. So… there’s a lot to look forward to. They screwed up the car a few months ago and I’m finally getting the courage to do it after fixing/replacing many things myself like the alternator, clutch master/slave cylinder, valve cover & gasket and intercooler pipes. I am nervous!

Looking back at this comment, seeing how much I have learned is crazy. I am going to perform another timing belt job on another dsm I got, and Im pretty excited to do it again. Loved the learning process, and it is not hard at all.

I own a 90 eagle TSI and I change my belt every 2 years even to know I only put a meat 200 miles a year on it

is the1990 eagle talon tsi turbo 2.0 an interference engine? I just bought one with a broke timing belt. Don't know much about these little cars and need all the info I can get.

I know this may be too much to ask. Do you have a parts list for everything recommended to change when doing a timing belt or in my case, building the engine from a rebuild? I am also interested in knowing what is needed for the 90 oil cooler to go on to a 6 bolt as I didn't have that on my old DSM. It sounds like a better option for this new build.

Got to vfaq dot com for the t-belt parts lists. For the 90 oil cooler you will need the 90 oil filter housing and of course an oil cooler and the lines. RTMRacing is my goto for parts.

Regards to the screwdriver for tdc, how do you know by the screwdriver your cam gears are tdc??

@@Maddox496 the screwdriver shows the piston is tdc and when the timing marks line up. The cams when the piston is at tdc has its dowel pins facing up.

Is this a 6 or 7 bolt motor? And is the timing process the same for both ?

It’s a 6 bolt. The timing procedure is close to the same. The biggest difference is adjusting the timing in a 2g. Best to look at the google machine for the differences to be certain. When I do a 2g 7 bolt some time I will make a video as well for the differences.

@@SlippingTime also my car got a new timing belt and components not too long ago but my water op pulley has wobble in it so since the motor is out of the car I’m gonna go ahead and re time it now Since the car has balance shafts can I skip that step ? Or do I need to re time my balance shafts ? -thanks

@@ihatejavier not sure I understand completely. If you haven’t removed the timing belt then adjustment shouldn’t change.

@@SlippingTime so I’m replacing my water pump and am going to be re timing the car When replacing timing belt do I have to also do the balance shaft belt or can I leave that how it is and get away with only doing the main belt

Do you have a part list and part number for the items used?

Depending on your setup the part numbers may very. (1g, 2g, 6-bolt, 7-bolt, etc). I find the best way is order kits from venders that walk you through what you need when ordering such as RTMRacing.
