The way I like to think of it. He told detailed stories of firefights, sleep deprived and adrenaline filled, the story could have rough spots in it that aren’t exactly factual but it is what he remembered as he was 30 hours no sleep and getting shot at. Motorola T802's and T803's are not mesh. They are FRS radios with the ability to connect to your phone via Bluetooth. Using the app they can text data, send locations (using your phone's GPS) using maps (using your phones data plan). GoTenna is mesh. Beartooth is mesh. Meshtastic is mesh.

I have my GRMS license and use that for immediate family since one license covers my immediate family members.. The new Digital stuff for ham is great becsuse it also has encryption. Very cool that Musk is settimg up sattalite for regular phones soon ❤. Great video guys. ❤

Great job guys. While a little complex, and old outdated technology, HAM APRS messaging, and HAM packet while old, slow, they are a base line comms, and un-centrilized, which is why they will survive. With a cheap Tram antenna, and an inexpensive 2m radio they can go a long long way, and with a few hops, can easily cover a very large multi state region if required.

i'd love a video on why my, and likely 99% of the people watching your videos need to be concerned with corporations, or even China for that matter, knowing my "pattern of life" or my add ID and its related history. How can this be used against me as a 'normal guy'? Obviously for a Bin Laden type, this is a critical security concern. For billionaires, or other potentially targeted individuals, also a concern. But for all of us? What should i be concerned about?

Think about phishing scams, identity theft, or even social engineering attacks. Is there any history of TikTok showing ads that are going to steal my creds for some other site (id theft etc)? this seems entirely adverse to the intent of these social media companies. Linus is a targeted individual, and the experience outlined in the Veritasium video has no real world impact to likely anyone watching this video, or that video tbh. If you're of the level to be a targeted individual, MDM and security is already in your day to day wheelhouse.

But the concern isn’t always with the companies themselves, It’s with how bad actors can exploit the data those companies collect. For example, your 'pattern of life' could make phishing or "vishing" attempts or scams more convincing, targeting you with personalized messages that seem legitimate because they mimic your behaviors or interests. I know of a few every day normal people with little to no online presence but they were targeted specifically with vishing scams. As for platforms like TikTok, while they may not directly engage in malicious activity, the access and potential misuse of your data by third parties, whether through breaches or partnerships, is where the real risk lies. It’s also not just about the 'targeted individual.' It’s about how an interconnected system of data could enable larger manipulations or vulnerabilities in society as a whole. I agree that most people won’t face direct consequences, but it’s about awareness and ensuring that this data can’t be weaponized in subtle ways, even against the 'normal guy.'

Apart from a fishing type attack that would attempt to get me to log into a website i MAY visit based on my history vectors (which honestly isnt a really good attack all said and done), what's the worst case scenario? putting aside the resources required for a targeted effort (as per veritasium), local resources with local capability beyond the civilian norm. that all being said, i can absolutely see how at a high level a platform like TikTok could be, effectively, weaponized. But this is so far outside the targeted or individual security concern realm. This is more on line with CCP pushing content that would drive individuals to a certain specific end. like, protest at a bridge and effectively shut off that bridge, and then attack a target whereby the attacker knows support will come across that bridge and be hindered by the pre-planned protest. far fetched today? perhaps, but certainly more within the practical capabilities of 'a platform' than gather mostly irrelevant "tracking data", save maybe location data. but why in the world anyone would open location data to tiktok or anything of the ilk (US owned, meta, etc included) is beyond me. i get what you're going for, and i don't object outright to people being cognizant of it. i'm just worried that descriptions given by you guys and similar channels are really framing the risk incorrectly for the average viewer. This is important, and people should be thinking about it, but this feels like scaring people, more than informing them. Granted i have a different perspective than most, being in IT for more than 20 years in one capacity or another just makes me question the practical ways these sorts of attacks can be executed, not the fact that "it could happen".

@TimkennedyMMA Just in case you might care? You repeatedly referto/touch the Motorola TalkAbout 803(?) series radio as a "mesh network" device when it is not. The 800 series simply allows the phone app to piggyback data FRS/GMRS channels but does not forward or repeat traffic like actually happens in a mesh network. It may have just been inadvertent, but the video does seem to suggest you think it is an actual mesh device. FWIW regards

The Motorola Talkabout radios are not mesh at all. They connect to your phone via Bluetooth and allow you to type up text messages, send your position, and then the radio will broadcast that data to the other radios on the same channel. They don't create a mesh network however.
