That we can agree on. She is clearly doing it for him. Herself there is no real interest in this music, and the complexity (and sometimes 20x listening to it) before you know whats really going on. But she is missing the musical appreciation for music like this.

I'm old enough that my kids are these guys age. I can assure you of a few things. 1. This dude hit the friggin' lottery. 2. If he's good to her and stays good to her, she will be the best friggin' wife anyone could ever hope for, and those are in very short supply these days. 3. If they have kids, those kids are gonna have the best GD Mom they could have ever hoped for as well. This girl is evidence that being wonderful isn't hard work. Bet on it.

Petrucci - Most beautiful guitars solos on Earth. Full stop. And he's the most humble guy on that same Earth. To be this good and to be meek about it? That alone is worth its weight in gold.

Dream Theater is my all time fav band. Been following them since the early 90’s as a young teenager. I love ur guys honest reviews and appreciate yas. U also have to take into account James Labrie (Kevin James Labrie) ruptured his vocal cords in the 90’s. Mans also in his 50’s. He has one of the most beautiful and powerful males voices I have ever heard. Range is out of this world especially before injury. All great voices age with time but he’s still killing it! 🤘🏻

I never get bored listening to DT. Their brilliance of using vocal melody throughout the musical interludes is transcendental. Listen closer to what each player is doing. They compliment each other, build dynamics together, and create entire movements based on the lyrics and vocal parts. They are amazing. A musicians band who take the best ideas from all your favorite bands and different musical influences to create the most epic sounds ever heard on the planet.

You should do Finally Free from the same concert (Breaking the 4th Wall) since it's a much more melodic song, plus adds a full orchestra and background choir which makes for a truly amazing experience. You might also want to show her something from the Live in Tokyo DVD. Though it's from 1993, it's from before James destroyed his vocal cords due to the infamous food poisoning incident in 1994 and he sounds amazing in that concert. James in general has a hard time singing songs from Images and Words or Awake live because they were written when his voice was a lot better stronger and he could hit the really high notes with minimal effort.

I get the "not liking James's vocals" live and I'll admit I've seen them live 2 times (the Astonishing & Distance Over Time) and James can be quite pitchy which as a former live sound engineer I know can be a thing for vocalists, it's a constant power (volume) struggle for band members who want & need to hear themselves and the others, old school monitors that I grew up with were very limiting and was always a compromise for all to hear, now days with In Ear Monitors it's an individual mix for each according to their needs (John P. does not have James's mic in his in ear mix because of potential for feedback while James walks around the stage) another thing this last tour I noticed James did better (less pitch problems) and had heard that the band did short mini tours if you will of 3 to 5 weeks with time off to rest the vocal chords and also for band members to have family time as well as pitching guitars and strings etc... but yes James can be pitchy you just have to take the bad with the good and enjoy this awesome band.

Hello my friends, there are more accessable songs from DT, this song at first was very hard to grasp, some songs feel like all over the place, but that's not true for every DT songs there are a lot more bound, but some at the instrumental parts are just more "crazy" than others. If you want her to get into DT you have to pick more simple songs for her which are more cohesive. But the best experiences frm DT are these conplex epics, some times very crazy but really original and genious pieces. JamesLaBrie's voice fits perfectly for DT, of course he's older but if you listen to studio album is perfect fit for DT, his vocals are interesting, DT couldn't be only instrumental, the vocals takes it to a whole new dimension. At live the instrumentals are really loud so i imagine that, beside getting older, its hard to sometimes keep the pitch but overall his vocals are fine. Don't mind some haters who only prefer rock with growl voices. James has always been the perfect fit for DT i cannot imagine any other personality for it. He has that dreamy voice that fits dream theater.

I think she just doesn't like this type of music and probably you won't find many song that she would enjoy it. I have friends that just aren't able to get this music because 99% of music is classic songs which lasts 5-6 minutes, in progressive metal you have to accept that there are not classic refrains, it is more like instumental composition with vocals in between.

I am not critiquing your wife or anyone else in any way but I just don't understand why so many people don't like James' voice. I mean I hear this all the time but I have never had a problem with it and actually like it. I have to laugh though. Either your wife is a complete angel or your newlyweds. If I tried to get my wife to sit down and listen/watch, fill in the blank, of something she didn't care for that much it would not be a pleasant experience at all. If it's because your newlyweds, get her to listen to as much Dream Theater as you can now because this will not last. LOL. Just messing with you.
@OutLoudStudios4 жыл бұрын
Well, we are fairly newlyweds but my wife is also amazing. The main thing though is she really likes a lot of rock and metal so she's willing to give any new music a shot. Also, I like James as well. Admittedly it took me some time but now he's just the voice of DT.

Getting bored because the song is longer than regular stuff ? Hmm, not really showing great musical interest in things. And in that case, DT might not make much sense, because if you cannot fully appreciate DT for how awesome they are, i dont think that further listening to it would make sense. If one is bored because a song is too long, that person is not into it enough to appreciate. And thats something you really need to do when you listen to bands like DT.

First off stop pausing so much second don't lay it on so thick. Let her watch without looking to see her reaction every few seconds. No one who's a fan of the band is a fan because of the singer. Everyone just waits for the instrumentals. If you're waiting for the vocals to get interested in the song this is totally the wrong band for you.
