@@DB_________ yeah and the cast was excellent too. Their roles were small but Rowan Atkinson and Keegan Michael Key were hilarious and memorable as their characters, and they weren’t completely villainous either. Even the pure evil cartel members were fun to watch. The other four adults enslaved by Scrubbitt were too. But in the end, the heart of the movie really was Timothee Chalamet’s Willy and Calah Lane’s Nooldle, which reflects on Wonka in the 71 film and his search for someone like Charlie.

Gene's is more whimsical but Timothee's is more nostalgic feeling Edit because I mistyped this but by 'nostalgic' I don't mean for _me_ but as a tone, it feels like Timothee's is looking back on his life, whereas Gene's is more whimsical. Which is fitting as Timothee's is at the end of the movie and when he's starting a his dream he spent his life working for, and Gene's is towards the start of the tour and part of the tour entertainment

I find it interesting people saying that Timothees version is more nostalgic feeling. I think the reason why people would say that is because of style differences. Gene Wilder’s movie came out in 1971. It’s a perfect example of a more swooning song from that time, a sweeping full studio orchestra, a long section where there isn’t any singing, at the time this would be a style very much harking back to the 40s and 50s. Timothee’s version is VERY much in todays style, simple piano only and him very close to the microphone, where you get that “real” aesthetic with all the breathing noises and such. Gene’s version will always be a classic and the best in my opinion, while timothee’s version is painfully modern.
@rcbmmines45797 ай бұрын
A respectable analysis, and I do love the Wilder version still, but after watching the new film how they used the song won me over. Spoilers if you have not watched it but still wish to: Although he showcases his shop and later the factory in this film, this part of the song is saved for when he did something far more moving and magical. He fulfilled a child’s dream, a fantasy she always imagined but never thought could be realized, to be reunited with her mother. Him alleviating her moment of hesitation on cue with “Come with Me” was perfect along with the new lyrics. Their relationship was the heart of the movie and in many ways foreshadows his search for Charlie. In that moment, it makes sense to keep the orchestra down and focus on the vocals and piano alone. He’s not introducing people to his factory, he’s reassuring a single child and alsp saying farewell. But yes I still love the classical style too.
@PRENSAESCENARIO7 ай бұрын
I think the same as you, the version of the first film is more beautiful, magical, the violins, the entire orchestra sound special. The song is sung in different keys. Definitely the colors that come with the orchestra make it the best interpretation.

I personally like both but timothee’s version is a lot slower and fits the tone of the movie very well. Cuz at the end it does get a little sad and how he sings it really captivates the somber feeling

To me this is the exact same Wonka just a young version and as an older man, i watched the new movie recently and it gives you that same feeling of pure imagination as the song suggests, just like when i watched the original as a kid. In my opinion the new version absolutely does justice to the original story and character. Perfect origin story.😊

No one should compare these two to see which is better, but to compare and realize how lucky we are to have both.

The new wonka is literally just a war over chocolate and the old one is just a magical factory
