The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike those faced by the Europeans of the 20th century, who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Can we learn from their experience?
Timothy Snyder is the Richard C. Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.
Dr. Snyder will be in conversation with Smita Narula, distinguished lecturer at Hunter College and interim director of the Human Rights Program at Roosevelt House.

This is the book of the year. We must guard against tyranny, in America and India and elsewhere too. Majoritarian democracy is it self bad, but much worse if it results in Tyranny. Prof. P S Jsyaramu

Mr, Snyder. Please learn how to articulate better to your audience.Your voice is up and down in volume and is unclear. Slow it down, and maintain a balance in projecting to the listener especilly those listening on line.

Timothys comments about Christianity are curious. He seems to assume that 'real' Christianity would have opposed anti-Semitism. Christianity is a generative source of anti-Semitism.

I was raised in church, but wasn't exposed to the concept of Christian anti-Semitism until I went to college. According to my professors it tends to be linked to denying the Jewish roots of Jesus and his followers.

Christianity gave rise to the blood-libel and forced jews to migrate to eastern Europe en masse. All religion is evil, truthfully.

@@stevej5185 i definitely wouldnt say religious is evil as humans have always found everyway to hurt each other religious or not. Its human nature i think people love to blame religion or politics instead of looking at human nature that tends to divide and harm naturally
