I feel like if I were to ever carry one, I'd ditch the bottle opener (makes it weaker) make it a chisel grind rather than double taper, and absolutely not put a V. It's not big enough to pull nails regardless. And personally, I really like the oval taper on the very first one that you abandoned. Squished out in the middle, rather than flat seems like it'd give a better hand feel. Awesome work!

Same opinion here. Though I did like the screwdriver idea; maybe a flathead could be ground into the middle edge for finishing or loosening tight threads?

What a sweet idea Tim! Super practical and a good use of the 1912 rail scraps!

I would definitely use that bottle opener! Nice looking piece, really like the dark contrast of the 1912 stamp. You could also make some mini double headed throwing axes. That would be cool.

Tim, for some reason I hadn’t seen any of your videos for a while - glad you are thriving! This piece was really excellent, sharing the way you approach the creative process. Cool little pry bar too, and I appreciate that you will “pilot” it yourself to decide what’s really useful. You are a talented innovator. 🖖🏼🌿

The heat treat look is amazing. Ive always wanted an edc pry like this but more in the 6 inch length. That little extra gives so much more leverage for my edc needs. The polish on the nose is gorgeous.

Combined scraper-thingy, bottle opener and paint bucket opener? The perfect “tool” for all the stuff you don’t want to use your “good knife” for, but still can’t do with your fingertips

I love it Tim! I'm an EDC enthusiast and would definitely buy one. I'd love for you to test that one out tho and make adjustments. I think maybe making the other end the pry might look cool, and more like the axe.

If the bottle opener needs to stay on , I’d move it to the far side opposite the pry section for strength purposes, and the nail puller doesn’t make much sense. Not something it’d be used for often and in my opinion a bit too small to actually work well in that function. Love the project!

Honestly I would love a video on how you have created what you have. I love to hear how they did it IN DETAIL! I enjoy hearing the success stories. I think everyone can be successful in their own way and figure out what success is for them.

I like how you thought about using the left over bits like that and who doesn't need an EDC pry bar? Also if you could make some kind of hole in it so that if you need more leverage you could fit something like a rod into it if that makes sense? Im not sure if you did, I haven't watched the whole video yet. After watching you did put a hole in it which is nice, also I'd say for an EDC item, it does need that V in my opinion. Give it as many uses as possible. Will you be selling these?

You could sharpen the inside of the bottle opener and make it a seat belt cutter as well. And a little pointy nipple on the end to smash car windows. Would make this an ideal every day carry

You could sharpen just one corner so it could be used as a package opener/use it to mark wood, etc.

Looks cool, but a chisel grind to get underneath stuff and more length to get it out of pockets easier might be more useful. I wouldn't worry about a notch on the 'edge' because it's a bit too short to pull nails anyway.... and I hate that they tend to catch an gouge out wood and paint etc, plus it'd take away from the axe esthetic imo. You could always do a 'hammer' shaped 5-in-1 too lol

I'd take a look at the mini prybar that Baumgartner Restoration uses to remove tacks from old frames. IIRC it has a small V. Overall I love this idea and that you're reusing scraps for it.

There's no need for a dedicated bottle opener notch. It just mars the lines and gives places to snag and hot spots on the hand. Any hard object is a bottle opener if you lever it off and hold it and the bottle right. No notch required. A blade anywhere is probably too much (and dangerous), but if you can work it around where hands go id love to see a ground sharp 90 degree (or maybe slightly less) corner for scraping and such: maybe on the back.

Given that you have that perfect sheath in your new apron, you should definitely sharpen yours. Then ship the rest dull and let the consumer decide what is right for their needs. Though I suppose an edge is easier to grind off than make.

If I were to carry a pry bar it would have to have multiple functions yet not loose strength. An Earth magnet set in to hold a bit, can opener/ bottle opener, an edge for box/ letter opening, glass break/ 2D flat and phillips head. Come in at 4.5”-5” and that would be the ticket for me. Jmho

Yes please. I've carried a few different pry bars and I never used the V. My current doesn't have one. Given that they are straight you always end up prying towards instead of away (like you would with a bent pry). This makes the V much less useful as it takes away leverage.

Maybe go ahead and sharpen it? Not sure what can be pried with this that couldn't be tackled with a good flat head screwdriver, so it's kinda more of a bottle opener. What about just making a mini Blackhawk bottle opener with the leftovers?
@NoCheeseNoMercy
@NoCheeseNoMercy 5 ай бұрын
Why don’t you turn that idea into a seatbelt cutter and a window breaker! I think they are called safety hammers. Somehow you would need to put spark plug ceramic in it but I bet a really sharp and hardened piece of steel could shatter glass in an emergency

That doesn't work so well in a lot of modern cars, as they've started using the same laminated glass that's used for the windshield.
