Tim I appreciate you very much. You remind me of my grandfather who was also a painter. I feel a connection to him and his wisdom when I watch your videos. Thanks for being constant with the uploads and all of your interesting lessons :)

Considering that 99.99999% of people will mever buy original fine artwork at all, you’re technically studying a HOBBY. Prestigious hobby. Your chances of selling a single piece is statistically improbable. So, best luck. I surely hope you didn’t BORROW cash for your hobby program.

I am not sure if I mentioned this before on another video of yours, but I like the ideas behind Practice Mode, Process Mode, and Product Mode. I've been in Process Mode (experimenting) before and didn't know that's why I would become frustrated. I thought I was in Product Mode, but this break down makes it easy to see one's thought process and subsequent actions.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Solomon🙏 I think understanding the 3 modes of creating are essential to developing one’s ultimate potential as an artist. Unfortunately when most aspiring artists step into process mode they don’t understand that failure is likely a consequence... and that it is okay. After a couple failures they run back to their comfort zone (product mode) and then stay there... and that ends their growth as an artist.

I have a question, does your art work need to be framed?
@timpackerfinearts
@timpackerfinearts 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t frame my work. I paint on the wide profile “gallery” style canvasses and just paint the sides black👍

Considering such low chances of selling even one artwork, offer both options. It really doesn’t matter. You’re not likely to sell anything. Art is a hobby. Not a profession or earnable business. It is a HOBBY!

9:23 I remember when you were mentoring Brooke and you explained the concepts of product mode and process mode 🎨 And practice mode is where I’ve been at for four years 😅 still developing my skill set.

Use what you’ve got! Learn for free from KZbin, Khan academy, coursera etc Find free books in your local library. Be creative with your art studies! You actually have a good chance to earn from art, because a US$ will stretch more for you, so your prices will be lower and more attractive. Westerners can sell art much, because our minimum wage is HUGE! Most artists just don’t produce enough value to be paid living wages, because art is mostly valued at zero! 99.9999% people don’t buy fine art. But with your lower prices, you actually have a GREAT chance! Don’t give up!

Perceived value is such a tricky thing to work out 🎨
@timpackerfinearts
@timpackerfinearts 3 жыл бұрын
The best way to figure that out is to get out to a lot of festivals and see what is Selling and for how much... and to have a lot of exposure of your work and gauge the public’s reaction 👍

Considering 99.999% of people are broke and will never buy art, the value of art is purely for the joy of creation and therapeutic benefits. Monetary value of most art of course is zero! Art is simply a hobby! Hoping to sell gives you less chances than winning a lottery! There are millions of artists, but only handful of paintings are sold per year per country. Usually just on auctions, secondary markets. Rich just swapping cash that way. Normal people just don’t buy original fine art, they’re broke and have no taste.

If I used competitive pricing, I’d be making less than the costs of my supplies. People buy Chinese made garbage for peanuts, so western artists have zero chance to sell for any PROFIT. You may even be in the negative. Unfortunately, art graduates keep graduating, but what type of job can you do with that useless degree? There are maybe 2-3 art geaching jobs per country per year, if your contry is huge. Seriously, there are way too many artists outthere than buyers. 99.9999% of people do NOT buy original fine art. They’re broke! Ikea print per decade per family- maybe not even.
