I love how your videos are like your paintings: energizing, but also calming and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your process, but also offering a peek into how you set up your studio and do the more mundane things like framing. So helpful. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your videos. And, like @PaulWalesArt says, it's more like a conversation with a friend than just a how-to-do-it.

Thanks so much Robin. 🙂 I've been away for the last week and just seeing your comment. I'm really glad that the videos feel more like a conversation - I'm on a journey of learning as much as anyone is and I wouldn't want to make videos that seemed not to reflect that. The next video is definitely in that vein - it's been a while coming but it'll be up very soon! Thanks again. 😁

Your spatula reminds me of a catalyst wedge. They’re also good for painting a straight line and blending.

You're right they're quite similar, I have a wedge too that I sometimes use with acrylics.

Thank you for these moments of tranquility. I save your videos like little gems. When I need reflection, inspiration, or just a break from my own thoughts. I, like you, can't retain all my thoughts for lengthy times. There truly isn't a more satisfying thing than the feel of paper under hand, leaving one's impressions.

I really like your point of using the spatula as it does not soak up water. Have you tried using silicone sculpting tools? They are shaped like paintbrushes and may give you some interesting options. If you do, I would love to see what you create! Beautiful work!

Hey Tim, it feels amazing to watch your videos! Right now, I’m excited to try using a spatula for my watercolor paintings, so thanks for the tip! I’ve somehow never thought about it and only used those palette knives so far… I’m really happy to see what’s to come! You are doing a wonderful job with your creativity and with encouraging/motivating other artists :) Big thanks ☺️

Hey Carina, thanks so much that means a lot! The spatula works great over palette knives, particularly for avoiding scratching the paper. 🙂 Enjoy the process. 😁

Tim, do you ever just wet back of paper then flip over and wet front to paint? I’m new to all art but found this way I do not have to tape…. Thank you for this video!
@TimSchofieldArt
@TimSchofieldArt Жыл бұрын
Hey Dorothy :) I have done this and it can work great! I prefer taping a painting down because I like having the paper on a firm surface. I tend to move the painting around a lot and that can be more difficult for me to do without making a mess if the paper is loose, but if you want to avoid taping the piece, wetting the back of the paper can be a great way to go, no doubt.

Thanks for sharing this. I have tried using a credit card to apply paint and been quite pleased with the results. Do you think your spatula is even better because it's more flexible?
@TimSchofieldArt
@TimSchofieldArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Marigold! A credit card can work great, and I've also experimented making my own tools with cardboard and tape. The main difference is that this is the only tool I've found that will avoid scratching the paper. Sometimes those scratches can add a lot of character, but I find that when using a card it's difficult to control them, so this is a way to get a similar effect with a bit more control! I hope this helps. 😁
