I already have the su25 which i bought mainly for my lineup for ground RB russia, i want to grind air towards the su27 tho and i can buy the mig23 on sale, the question is should i buy it or should i just grind with su25 lol, seems cancerous at 10.0

i've started taking only the R-24T when playing just because it's incredibly fun to go off to the side slightly, climb to the heavens, and then either swat F-14s out of the sky with something they don't know is coming or drop one from below 12km up. keeping a hard lock with IRST also helps the R-24T and R-60s gain a ton of flare resistance in the rear aspect and sometimes even side aspect

the R24T is fun especially since most people think you are firing an R-60M so they'll pop one or two flares which is just not enough

@@spectre0969 You can't have datalinnk capability with irst mate, it's just like an AMRAAM being guided by radar while you hold the lock and the other guy chaffs so in this case, the irst is "strengthning" the lock for the missiles.

The MLA was the first one to get r24. The MLA is a late production ML and the line betwen the ML and MLA production is very blurry. We dont realy know when the switch was done, similarly to the t72ural1 getting composite armor before the switch to the t72A wich was the one wich was ment to have composites. I guess gaijin decided to go with the extremely late production ML wich could hipoteticaly already be the MLA, plus r24 sell beter than r23.

Yes, basically what the first comment said. In Russian sources not much evidence separates ML and MLA production, both are used interchangeably, as the only considerable difference between the two was a slightly different radar. For example, East Germany did list their planes as MLAs, but in Russian sources they only mention MLs being sold. So it's kinda correct that the german one in game is an MLA, Gaijin can be very careful with details when they want :)

A few things regarding the HUD which is awesome in Sim Battles. When you lock an enemy, either with Radar or IRST, the HUD gives you a circle around them, which makes it really easy to find them. Also, when you lock an enemy with a Missile, you have a range bar on the left side, showing you the Optimal launch distance with an arrow. Its a really cool HUD once you understand what it does.

The radar actually does have multiple range presets, but only in search or search LD, and only above a certain hight.

Even though it is the fastest it doesn't get to speed as quickly as the Mig-29 does so unless you really are in for a very long chase the Mig-29 will outrun it

It might sound awkward, but I find both variants of R-24 to be better than their R-27 counterparts, including ER. They don't have that weird zig-zaging tendency, which often leads to nosedives into a hillside and I find TRK MTI being more reliable than TRK PD, minus the altitude requirements.

Although the default range setting of ML's Radar is 30Km, you can change the range set from the altitude 2400m. (60 and 90km are available) So you can use it for situational awareness.

So I'm gonna out myself, I won a bet with a friend. I ended up getting this plane out of it. I had played up to at MOST 3.7 in Air. I got this jet played it after the F-4S, and the MIG-23ML is league better for a new player. This jet excels in its interceptor role, and while you need to learn countermeasures, radar is not necessary. Both IR lock missles are...serviceable. I usually play arcade with it in stead of realistic, but even then it works.

Struggling hard with it, played 10 games 10 losses 0 kills. Can't get anything with it despite my missiles locking with easy angles that the likes of the r7m would hit.

@oz314 R-60M is very very short range, and the R-24s are kinda mid. Try playing as an interceptor and shoot off the missiles at a closer range. Also pick your targets, I frequently see Su-17s and Su-22s which can’t really compete with the 23ML or people who are not paying attention.

I wanted to like it so badly, but it just gets absolutely dominated by F-14/16 and MiG-29. In real life the F-5 could absolutely dominate it, so why why why would they make it fight aircraft that are leagues better than it? The answer is Gaijin is a POS game developer and company. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing. And they need to add up to 15.0 BR and spread everything out before they add EVEN more vehicles. I don’t really care anymore though. I literally uninstalled War Thunder the other day after getting shredded by SPAA in Sim over and over and over again unable to even get close enough to engage them, after they swore they reduced SPAA accuracy in Sim Battles.. I’ve just had enough with being punished for trying to play the game.

Honestly my tactic is wait 60 secs until I take off then fire my R-24Ts from side aspect about 7km away and then rtb. Works 60% of the time but my entire team dies because they all go to the furball and stay in the furball.

You're actually slightly incorrect about the radar not having multiple range presets and sweep angles. Above 1750m altitude you can have 3 range presets (30, 60, 90km) in both Look Up and LD Mode. Furthermore Look Up and Look Down have 2 angle presets (60x8, 60x12), though MTI is limited to 60x4.

notching is the achilles heel of pulse doppler mode. You can turn off pulse doppler if you don't want enemies to be able to notch you. You just have to forfeit all of the benefits that pulse doppler otherwise provides.

the R-24T is better than the R-27T so it is kind of irreplaceable if you want to max out a few jets in RB to play around with in AB..as long as this is a fact the jet will be up with the best of them!
