Some of the game modes in the OG splitgate is what set it off for me - beyond standard tdm there were some fun game modes that portals made interesting. You always ran into dudes who were super good, and a lot of folks who weren't - it was a lot of fun! Playing this alpha myself and enjoy the abilities addition, they don't pull focus away from portals so they work :) Really looking forward to the full release of this!

19:40 If you put a portal down on a floor or wall and jump through it to a portal thats high up you can basically slingshot yourself across the map. Maps in Splitgate 1 had more opportunities to do this tho it seems. I remember one map you could literally just yeet yourself off the map into a portal and fly across from the other side.

Game is fun. Gunplay and abilities are awesome. The skill gap is 100000% the portals. Splitgate 1 it was even more crazy. The map design now doesn’t seem as ridiculous to where you HAVE to know portals. Eventually you will but for now it seems fine.

I loved the original Splitgate. I have about 300 hrs in it. I know not near as much as some but still decent. The thing I loved most about it was there was no meta. Everyone in that one started with the same guns and you picked up other weapons around the map. Everyone also started with emp grenades to close portals with. Your right about the portal thing. I could use them a little but the "pro" players are ridiculous. If you ever get the chance look up videos of them using portals to get around entire maps in seconds. Also you could close both portals as an opponent ran though to trap them inside for a kill. As for what happened to the first, from what little I know, is that It never truly came out of beta. Once the devs were able to, they decided that it was easier to start from scratch and make a second one rather than rebuilding the first. This one ,I say, more closely resembles what they originally intended, but lacked the funds or ability at the time. Now I am cautiously optimistic about this one and the inclusion of factions, loadouts, abilities, etc. It's a fun addition as long as we don't have CoD/Overwatch style metas through loadouts or factions respectively. Either way i am looking forward to see where this one goes. Here's hoping it can find a way to stand out more this time around.

in sg1 any character can use any gun because theres no classes/factions just you and everyone else. but now having guns locked behind classes im not sure about that. in sp1 leveling up guns was fun because you could play any way you want since guns are tied to anything but now that gun are tied to something now youre forced to play a certain way just to level up a gun you like, which i dont like. a major complaint in sp1 is you cant see through teammates portals and instead of fixing it they abandon sp1 and claim theyre taking everything theyve learn in sp1 improve and work upon it for sp2 so why cant we still see through teammates portals, fix this before launch, hell fix it before beta theyve have since sp1 to fix that.

100%, when you start to wrap your head around portals, your love for the game will grow. Luckily, it’s a natural learn as you go. The skill gap wasn’t an issue in the first game. The range separated the experiences well enough that players didn’t interact with things that haven’t been eased into countering, for the most part. The complaints came from people watching others and I guess, being afraid that they would have to experience the receiving end.

The first one was made by a really small group of people that couldn't really keep it relevant as there wasn't enough people to provide enough content It blew up 2 years after its release when it dropped on console and even tho it fell off again, the devs received enough funding that they decided to end development of the first and create a new one
