I have done this process, trying to improve my crotch fit. This is an excellent example of showing the frame of our shape and how pants patterns, which are created using a skirt pattern, often don't even come close to a real crotch curve. I have also made several pant muslins and tried various directions for creating my own patterns. It is the most challenging of all the patterns to fit and feel good with the end results. I have also taken patterns from jeans, and other pants or stretch pants, yoga wear too. Putting a fitting solution like this to those patterns is very effective. Thanks for sharing.

I haven't even begun sewing yet. The learning starts soon. I'm getting an inherited sewing machine tuned up and checked out, and then my journey begins. So, this is pretty far advanced for me, but really interesting. As a larger woman, finding pants that fit better than "ehh, it'll do" is not an experience I've had in my life. While I know it's going to take quite a bit of time before I tackle making pants, or learn to tailor patterns to fit me better, watching this video makes it feel so much more accessible. Just knowing there are such wonderful resources and ways to learn makes me even more interested and excited to sit at the machine and start the process. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and craft.

I have different issues but this explanation is EXTREMELY helpful!!! Thank you so much!

Why didn’t you need to change the front rise more than the 1/4”? The drawing looks like it is much different than the pattern.

I was not happy with this method until I put a belt around my waist, and then measured to the bottom of the belt front and back. VOILA! Great explanation.

KZbin sewing videos have been my best friend while I healed from Ankle Surgery. I haven't bought a pair of pants in years --- that fit. So I decided to learn how to sew in Sept 2017 and accumulated everything I needed between then and December 29, 2017. Needless to say I've had 100s of hours of lessons before even turning on my new sewing machine. I even learned how to make a Duct Tape manikin and bought all the materials I would need for that today. Unfortunately the manikin is only for the Top Half. LOL New Year's eve would have been more fun if I would have found 5 out of 4 Patterns before! I am very serious about having cloths that really fit... The thought of having to do all the adjustments on a muslin for a pair of paints was terrifying, pretty much because I figured out that none of the patterns I could every buy would mimic the curves of my Tummy and Bootie! Thank you to you and your fellow 5 out of 4 Patterns partner for making these videos. The full Tummy Adjustment and Tin Foil lessons were awesome!!!!!!!!!!! With these two areas covered so that they will be right, what else could go wrong? LOL Well I am your new and most interested subscriber! It would be so great if you would make another video showing how to turn your adjusted paints pattern into a new muslin or completed pair of pants! Please help fix this baggy world one Bum at a time? Happy New Year!

You are an inspiration. I learned to fit myself using ready-made clothing for patterns. I also drafted a bodice block using the draping method and worked it up until I could get the fit right. Understanding how your measurements differ and how much wearing ease you need is the trick to learning how to make clothes that fit. It is very possible and so worth the effort. I hope you are still sewing. I love to use the sewing processes done by the industry in ready-made clothing. When I reverse engineer the patterns, I know what I need to change to get things to fit without having to make a muslin for every pattern I could use. Learning how you like your clothing to fit is also a great asset to learning to sew clothing that fits and is wearable.

So glad I watched the video! It made a lot more sense than just reading the blog. I wasn't tracking on "add it back" and I think I can do this!

Thank you for this video! I read a few blogs (including yours) for making the "fish bowl" template, but was having the hardest time figuring out what to do with it on the actual pattern. The stills on your blog make perfect sense now that I've seen the video, but it just wasn't clicking until I saw the video.

Also - how do you get the hip lines same height and parallel to the floor?

I looks like you overlapped only one seal allowance not both sides.

I was wondering about that as well.

Can you please add at least a picture of the results? Did you sew up a sample based on this?

What happens if you change the angle of the flat part and please bot the back some to more fit the curve you want?

Excellent. Hardly anyone addresses the tilted pelvis. Thank you

Simple way to do it is ... Copy the curve from pants that fit you perfectly.

Thank you! Awesome alteration tutorial. Is there a way to do this on store bought pants?
@SparkyOne5493 жыл бұрын
In my experience, I don’t have any issues with store bought pants, only sewing patterns for pants.

I'm much bigger than you but I feel like our bottom half is like the same shape. I have a full low butt and full inner/outer thighs. I also have a large tummy too though. My woven pants are alway either too tight in the belly, though they fit in the waist and hips, or they give me a wedgie or a combination of those things lol. Can you show how to do the low butt and fsa adjustments at the same time on the pattern. I'm having difficulty understanding where to scoop from during drafting. Do I scoop from the diagonal line used to draw the crotch curve, or do I scoop below the crotch line?

Sharon, I'm not sure which muslin you're referring to. Can you give me some more information so I can try and track it down for you?
