Tin Hares to Coonamble: Australian Trains

Over the Melbourne Cup long weekend in November 2013, the Association of Railway Enthusiasts and The Rail Motor Society organised a four day tour around New South Wales venturing as far north as Coonamble, west to Dubbo and Griffith and south to Junee.
The route of the trip was Telarah (near Maitland) - Muswellbrook - Gulgong - Merrygoen - Dubbo - Coonamble - Dubbo - Orange - Parkes - Stockinbingal - Cootamundra - Temora - Griffith - Narranderra - Junee - Sydney - Telarah.
The trip was operated by CPH7 and CPH1, two historic 1920's CPH "Tin Hare" railmotors that have been superbly maintained by the dedicated volunteers at The Rail Motor Society in Paterson.
The third video in this series takes us from Gilgandra north to Coonamble, 616 kilometres from Sydney and then back along the line to Dubbo, 154km to the south in the state's central west.

Excellent video. Well done. I travelled on CPHs many times on branchlines in the early 1980s. Always enjoyable, especially if sitting up the front.

Nice dead end at 10:30. I wonder if they would permit you to alight there. Its right there in town, whatever town that is. Supposing that town was your destination, you know the place backwards, then you'd walk the few blocks to wherever, and spare yourself the doubling back by locomotive to the station.

We went up to the dead end then ran back into the platform (which wasn't far away), where we alighted. The town is Coonamble

@@vrfan Okay. Well, there be nothing much to consider if the dead end is only a few yards from the platform. Find your pick up or taxi or set off on foot from either the platform or the dead end. Same difference. It was just that if the dead end was a kilometer or two away from the platform, and there was an agonising change of track setting, or cattle freighting or mail was holding things up, then you'd want leave to exit via the dead end and be in town, as such, straight away.

What a shame that an Xplorer set can't be utilized to run regular passenger services to Cobar and Coonamble.

Thank you for sharing the video of the use of this older train. Seeing it reminds me of photographs of Trolley's back in the 1930s and 1940s. Very video!
