I feel like Im the only one who interprets this song not as a sad song but as a song of trust. I see it as a person who has been hurt and broken their whole life and is tired of trying, but then they meet someone. "If you give me your armor you can have my heart." They want the person they trust their heart to to protect it and in return they will give you their heart, no matter how broken. I feel like this song has a deeper meaning than just i have a broken heart. Idk maybe im wrong. But this is how i see the song.

This song is just so much more than a breakup song. It can be interpreted for someone who has struggled their whole life and is just tired of the emotional bullshit. Death, lies, abandonment, depression, drugs, abuse, war, crime, bullying, etc. All this shit causes pain in someway and our “heart” takes the pain because it literally feels like someone stabbed it or dropped it in ice. Just imagine if we could literally trade the proverbial heart that feels pain in exchange for armor. The thought is...beautiful.

Interesting how a common theme exists in all of these comments. I shared it too. 58 years of failed relationships. Broken hearts. Truly thought it was a myth. Until a girl who was put into my life for a season that caused me to realize that I was going about it all wrong. I tried to love my partner too much only, and not Jesus enough. She turned me around and I began loving Jesus with all my heart. Our true country roots are God and Country. But as a man I sure missed it. She left my life as fast as she was placed into it. But left a huge impact on me. I then began praying for God to place His choice into my life instead of my life choice. Patience is the hardest thing about God's timing to understand and wait for. 15 month later He placed her into my life when I least expected it. She wasn't anything I would have dated because of my fear of not being able to. That was some time ago. She and I haven't left each other's side since. I truly believe now I really was fighting God's choice. Arrogantly we all make that mistake and doubt His immense power. Never again will I ever make that mistake again. He truly is first and we are second. Once we accept that and trust Him, only then will we will be successful. Try it. Trust Him and have patience. Never let Him go. He will never let you go. This song is like.... Gospel... I can barely listen to it without closing my eyes and holding back, FIGHTING BACK, the tears. I've been there. Most of us have!
