Most people forget, Robbie wasn't the oldest son. Mike was the oldest. He left the show and Ernie was adopted to continue with the 3 sons theme. Mike married Sally (Meredith McCrae) another beautiful blonde.

That's true. Actually, Fred Ma Murray's playing the saxophone is what helped him get started in Hollywood. William Demarest did play the cello in real life although I don't know if he was self taught. As for Don Grady, I don't know if he played the trumpet at all although he did play a few different instruments and wrote music.

I can't speak for Tina Cole, but the men of My Three Sons were all capable musicians. No studio overdubs were necessary; it was really them playing.
