Tina Dempsey

Tina Dempsey’s interdisciplinary creative practice is an ongoing material exploration of cultural landscapes. Reacting to the social, physical and emotional spaces she traverses, documenting and re-appropriating images into abstracted forms that propose alternative realities. Today’s modes of communications; in particular popular culture and media, provide an unceasing glut of imagery which becomes the inspiration and source material for her work. Dismantling, constructing and re-assembling this information via painting, collage, sculpture, drawing and print generates the potential to re-engage the viewers everyday associations and knowledge of language and behavioural attitudes towards ways of seeing and interpreting visual stimuli. Through the process of material experimentation the work intuitively strives for balance between trend, topics and taste when thinking about social and contemporary amalgamations of the things we make use of; their form, their relationships and its impact.
