She had a serious problem being so associated with Gilligan’s Island and had nothing to do with any reboot movies or reunions. She finally loosened up about the association just before cast members started passing away. Now, she is the last remaining member of the cast.

It is absolutely criminal the actors in this series didn't benefit all these years financially. The show has been in reruns forever and yet the actors only got a limited amount of that over the first few runs. Sherwood Schwartz should have done right by them. They are the biggest reason for the show's success.

A lot of these comments only prove why she regrets taking on the role of Ginger…you all are vile. She is NOT Ginger. Ginger is a character she played. You like Mary Ann? Great. But why put Tina down just to elevate Dawn? What became Ginger vs Mary Ann became Tina vs Dawn. None of you all even knew these two women so how do you know Tina was stuck up? It’s no wonder she didn’t want to be a part of the reunions. Who would when you got a lot of haters telling you another woman is better than you in every way? Who wouldn’t be upset when people are judging you based on a character you played? And for those who claim she lacks talent? Have you not seen her filmography? Do you not realize she was in one of the most iconic films ever? The Stepford Wives.

Tina Louise HATES being remembered as "Ginger," and was so pissed off about it that when they held cast reunions she refused to show up - just as she refused to reprise her role as "Ginger" when "Rescue From Gilligan's Island" was made. She thinks that role typecast her and ruined her career, never taking into consideration that maybe she just wasn't all that great an actress to begin with.

@@unknownstranger6875 What I know is from what I heard her say in an interview many years ago. When she was first signed on to the show she was under the impression that her character was going to be one of the main characters; as the show progressed Dawn Well's character became more popular, and this pissed Tina off. (Understandably so, I might add.) And all my comment proves is that she had an attitude as exemplified by her flat-out refusal to star in the sequel movie.

America/the world wouldn't know who Tina Louise today if it had not been for Gilligan's island. I was not impressed to find out that she was so unhappy on the show and that effected the cast. People who sign contracts and then make it unpleasant for everyone on the set because she cannot get out of her contract are not impressive. Again... She is known world wide for this. Any other actor would feel fortunate to have had that opportunity and not bitched so much.
@unknownstranger6875
@unknownstranger6875 Жыл бұрын
If she’s bitching it’s because people are ALWAYS saying that Mary Ann and Dawn are better than she is. So I can see why she hated it. Imagine being seen as stuck up and inferior to another woman, based on a FICTIONAL character you played. That would get to anyone.
@rdkuless
@rdkuless Жыл бұрын
@@unknownstranger6875 And Tina made a choice to read the reviews.. Most actors that play characters don't read them. No one wants to be compared, but that is how the world works.. Tina could have simply acknowledged that Dawn's character was a hit, and said to the writers, i want better lines.. and show that my character was human.. a humbling scene, where her character dropped the "I'm such a beautiful actress" attitude, and said, "i'm really just a simple girl, who had a dream to be a big star". "you (mary ann) and I (ginger) are really not that different. We want the same things out of life." That kind of humanizing dialogue in the script would have made her more popular.. And young boys that watched G I, wanted a nice farm girl for their wife.. It was not a personal attack.. so why did Tina act like it was..? Insecurity..?
@unknownstranger6875
@unknownstranger6875 Жыл бұрын
@@rdkuless Yes it’s insecurity. I explained why in my original comment. You think it’s that easy to not read slander about you? Especially when people ask you which character is better? Jennie from K-Pop band Blackpink was literally shown screenshots where people badmouthed her out of envy and hatred. Do you also think the director and producer were going to change the personality of the character, just because Tina asked? Look what happened to Marilyn Monroe. She was a very talented woman who was exploited and taken advantage of. She didn’t want to be underpaid or be seen as a dumb blonde. So she had to create her own company as a way to escape that. Yet to this day she is seen as a whore and a dumb blonde. Interestingly, she too went through something similar to Tina. People to this day, still compare her to Audrey Hepburn and guess who is always put on a pedestal, regarded as a saint, and a better woman? Audrey. Even though she herself had affairs and was far from perfect. All of this is nothing more than a case of the Madonna-whore complex and blood sport. People need someone to scapegoat and humiliate. So they dehumanize the person, tear them down, just to put someone else on a pedestal. It’s despicable.

Makes sense, just like Little Chrissie Snow (Suzanne Somers) sued the Network when the reruns of Threes Company selled for millions of dollars, she said she learned and realized this was a business, and she was entitled to what she contributed to the show. Just like the Duke Boys that walked off the set of Dukes of Hazzard because CBS was making millions off merchandising from the car and t-shirts and toys and even video games and they felt they was not getting payed the royalties they deserved because they felt they are the ones that made that 1969 Dodge Charger (the General Lee) famous. It dragged out in court for a year, was replaced by Coy and Vance, ratings fell, and when Bow and Luke returned after working out deal with CBS the next season the ratings did not come back like they once was. And who forget JR Ewing (Larry Hagman) he demanded a raise for making Dallas popular, he bragged before his Death he was the reason the actors on the sitcom Friends made millions of dollars and episode because he claims he started the whole thing of actors being payed more.

The only oddity with Gilligan's Island is the network never thought it would take off and viewed it as filler. Even though the show was doing well it was dropped to keep Gun Smoke in the lineup. Dawn Wells is the only actor that made out. The network didn't have faith or like the show o she is the only one who got residuals in her contract, being the last hired. Her and husband look like geniuses on that one.

Very much so. Tina Louise was putting together a career as a dramatic actress and had some excellent movie credits at the time. What seems to have happened is that her agent convinced her to take the role of Ginger in order to give her a bit more exposure. Nobody expected this silly show to last more than a single season. Natalie Schafer, for example, only took the role of Lovey Howell because it meant a free vacation in Hawaii. Schafer didn't think the show would get any farther than the pilot episode. It also seems that Louise was tricked to some extent by Schwartz, who represented to her that she would be the central character. When the show took off, Louise was stuck with it. This is why she never participated in any of the reunions or reunion episodes, as she (with a lot of justice) felt that the show had killed her career as a serious actress.

Was Ginger the origin for calling redheads today "gingers?" Seems like a pretty new word; never heard it before the past 10 years or so

+Frank Burns No, the name was probably chosen because she is red-headed (although it is also a shortened form of 'Virginia'. But that certainly wouldn't work for ginger Grant! Ginger is a common term for red-heads.The _Dictionary of Slang and Unconventional English_ says it is used as such as early as 1823.

@Light in the Piazza "I think so" simply means you don't know either and you're only assuming so because it just sounds good. Instead of assuming something, do some research and find out.

Hello, I'm finding that Terre Tucker was Playmate of the month Nov.1963. Tina Louise was the Nov.1963 calendar pin-up though.
