I would definitely love to see you do a product shoot on film. I would love to see your whole process: staging & shoot, develop and scan/retouch. It’s probably be about a 30min episode, but I’d watch that for sure.

That brings back memories. Shot my first wedding on that system, which I bought brand new in 1990. The "i" version added TTL flash metering with the Metz SCA 386 adapter. With a metered prism, it offered auto exposure modes the Hasselblad only dreamt of. Mine were outfitted with prisms and manual handgrip to facilitate both horizontal and vertical shooting. It was quite an economical setup to shoot, getting 15 images per 120 film and yielding 4x5 proofs and 8x10 enlargements for wedding albums.

This was my first camera too! I inherited it from my grandad. One of my fondest memories was seeing him staring down the viewfinder with his tongue out.

We all have those sentimental cameras I’ve owned a Leica M6 for 6 years now - don’t get to use it as much but just like your Bronica it taught me to be a better photographer than my 50D ever did. I completely taught me how to look at light a meter to near/absolute perfection.

I print color mainly , the reason behind it is richness of color and less stime spent in front a screen and i enjoy the tacticality of the whole process. couldn't be bothered with presets and a full digital process anymore. A well executed print will always look better in my eyes . A lot of young fashion and still life photographers are actively keeping the practice alive, we just need those prices to go back to a decent level, in the meantime we'll keep offloading the cost to the client . Lovely seeing you talk about about film . Keep up the great work.

@@TinHouseStudioUK while I don’t darkroom print color, I DSLR scan and digitally edit my color film shots and having to color correct later has really helped train my eye for noticing tints of green, magenta, and yellow. It’s maddening because I’ll get an image where I think I want it and then put it away, come back a day later and discover my tastes have changed overnight and now the image has too much of this or that. I’m starting to get myself more dialed in now though. Film has really helped me improve my eye and I’m super glad I picked it back up in 2018.

My first camera was a Canon F1 but this Bronica was my first medium format .... Still using it I love it so much !!! Yes, we all miss the Kodachrome 64 ...

Nice video. I have an ETRSi which I absolutely love. With three film backs, and 75mm and 40mm lenses I am totally set up for a day out, or day anywhere. Like you this camera has taught me the fundamentals of 'good photography practice', something I think gets forgotten with digital SLR's. I don't do D&P, I just send off my film and scan the negs through an Epson V600 scanner and 'tidy up' with Lightroom. Like you I also adore B&W film and, in the four years I've had the ETRSi, I have yet to put a roll of colour through it..!! I get my film from a firm called Analogue Wonderland. Excellent products and service - and good prices too. Now I need to check out your other videos. Thanks for the experience.

I miss shooting film but not running to the lab. My history with the format went from the Mamiya 645Pro to a Pentax 67II and then my favorite was the RZ67II. Considering your working system, I would have thought that you'd own an RZ67.

Nice! I like your analytic point of view when it comes to sharpness of your bronica lenses! I will happily shoot my rolleicord III tlr at 3.5 and be happy with the level of detail I get on my frames! Keep up the good work!

I have the PE 45-90mm zoom in addition to the 60/100/135 PE primes. The zoom is actually my favorite, because it's so unique and fun to use. It weighs as much as a couple of bricks of course, but I don't mind. Yesterday I even used the PE1.4 + zoom on it. If you haven't already, I strongly recommend looking at Rick Olsen's focus screens for these bodies. They're far brighter than the stock Bronica screens. I use the screen with a 45-degree split prism, and it makes focusing with either the prism or WLF much nicer. Great video - sub'd.

Currently looking at an ETRSi with the AEii finder and the bundle comes with a 250, 150, 75 and 40mm I believe all green ring lenses. $1,200.. good price? Camera seems in very good condition

Great presentation. I have the ETRS with the 75mm lens. I just got two extension tubes (E-14; E-28). It seems that the extension tubes can't be stacked, I have to use them separately. I can't find anything regarding this, but one shop indicated that it had to do with the leaf shutter and the friction when used. I don't really believe that, but I don't really know enough about the Bronica to say otherwise. My other medium format camera has extension tubes and I can stack the tubes even with a leaf shutter lens I have. So if you can please enlighten me if you have the time.

Have you ever tried Canon EF film bodies given you have your 5Ds? After (another) point and shoot broke I bought an EOS 300x film body with the 40mm pancake because it was tiny/light, and that experience was good enough to get me to buy into Canon full frame DSLR. Some of them are really nicely featured, I have an EOS 5QD which has fun features like a depth of field priority mode, and AF that works based on where you look in the viewfinder.

yeah I had a Canon EOS1n for years. It was brilliant. But too big for a 35mm camera considering point and shoots etc.

I picked up an ETRS at a lost and found auction for AUD150 (GBP75). Its great fun to shoot with, and was good to learn basic film development on. Just damn expensive these days to get it out :(

4:49 It seems like you have the 50mm in MC ("not so good") version, as it looks like the red MC type is visible on your lens. Is it only in 75mm that the MC version is not so good? Or is the MC the only 50mm version for the etrs?

I still have a couple of these and a selection of glass. Whilst I also have Hasselblad and a Mamiya RB67 Pro SD system the Bronica still has its place. I am a little on the lazy side though as I have the motodrive on my bodies. Handy for out and about when I don't fancy dragging the RB around. With my Bronica pimped out the way it is it handles very much like a 35mm camera but with the advantage of a bigger neg.

This may be a dumb question but how do I set or rate iso with the waist level viewfinder?

On your light meter. There is no meter within the camera for the waist level finder. so your film stock dictates it, so bang that number into the light meter.

I had one of these 645's... It was a piece of junk. Was constantly failing on job after job. I did stick with bronica though and switched to the SQ Ai which was a far better camera.
