Coincidentally I also finished this book yesterday after a previous aborted attempt a little over a decade ago. I loved your review and agree with your impression of the book wholeheartedly. I had already watched the BBC mini-series which is a very faithful adaptation of the book, and I'm certain that helped me immensely in reading it this time around. There are some chapters early in the book that can be challenging in understanding where in the timeline they take place. I picked up the 3 books of the Karla trilogy recently, primarily with the intention to read The Honourable Schoolboy. As I'd already watched and loved the mini-series adaptation of the 3rd book - Smiley's People, THS was the only story I was completely unaware of. I wasn't originally planning on attempting TTSS again, but I'm glad I relented. Despite knowing the general plot and who the mole is, TTSS was an incredible read and is now firmly in my all time favorites. The strength of its characters and intricate plotting promises it to be a rewarding re-read. THS is a bigger book but I'm really excited to get into it.

I finished reading this morning, but different from you I didn’t like 😅 it takes me a couple months to finished. the big problem for me is that I didn’t understand many chapters, they were confused. I’m a little upset with it, because it’s a very famous and well rated book and I was expecting to like it. It’s possible that the edition I read has a problem of translating and editing (I read in Portuguese). But listening your opinion help me saw the book differently, and now I intend to watch the bbc series (I didn’t know this adaption existed and I expected it helps me to enjoy more the book)
