That should be exactly the mindset! To be creative and critical at the same time is not a good combination. In my mind a recall at least 3 big legend artists that would have that 2 distinct phases somehow: Vangelis, Queen, ABBA…

That's a good point. Being critical and creative is not an easy combination.

@@ThePlughugger John Cleese from Monty Python has extensively investigated the creativity side of humans and he has really great ideas on it. He also defines one stage AFTER creativity, that is where the criticism enters, before it is not allowed 😉

Great video. Hi im a producer and a mixer. As a mixer i produced too much in a mix of clients. Some did like it some didn't. With the ones who didn't I learned to know the difference. Now i present some production ideas later on when the mix is almost done. As a producer/beatmaker i was way too busy mixing the beat before there was even a good idea. I had a beatblock for a long time because of this.. There i also found a way by, for instance shaping a kick not longer then 5 minutes and spend waaaay more time choosing the kick itself. The trick is to set boundaries and be well aware of which hat you have on at what moment. I think you should take the time to define what process of of doing music belongs to what hat you wearing for yourself. So like you said in this video

Thanks for taking the time to write your experience. Yes, I absolutely agree that setting a time like 5 minutes, is a great way to quickly minimize wasting time.
