Ive been a subscriber of yours,Ironhorse and Buckin Billy for a couple weeks and can't say enough how amazing you all are ,you guys ROCK!!🤘 I truly love how y'all enjoy helping others out,keep up the good work and the videos they're awesome!!! All you fellas are super knowledgeable and informative about saws that it's got me wanting to try my hands at building a saw. I'm a gear head myself but never tried building a saw but thinking seriously about it. I'm thinking about building one of my grandpa's old saws. Ones a Grey top Husqvarna 61 and a old stihl 032av but thinking about building the Husqvarna 61. Just got the Husqvarna 61 running which it only needed the oil pump leak fixed but besides that its awesome. I don't think he hardly used it cause it looks new, just leaking cause of sitting and the seals dry rotted so I'll be watching alot more of your vids buddy and probably be ordering some goodies from Wolf Creek soon......wish me luck.

Something I really like about your builds is that you take the extra time to really clean the bottom end of the saw even if there’s nothing wrong with it. Other builders are like if the bearings feel good then they don’t mess with it.

You learn when you port your very first saw carefully over a full weekend. I wrecked my first cylinder, bought a second, and wound up with a very sporty Stihl 044 (71cc w/ 32” bar). Then you come watch the videos again,, they finally make total sends, and takes six hours to do your second saw. Go build one - worst thing you can do is wreck a part and try again.

do you have a set of intake duration to exhaust opening numbers you like to hit? is there a basic set of rules for how a saw will behave (with your porting style) for say a long intake and a low exhaustn roof vs a short intake with a high roof vs long/high? also, in a previous video you said popups hurt the transfer flow across the crown. have you tried leaning back the popup edges towards the intake?

Now wouldn’t cutting the crown only effect exhaust timing and upper transfer, I feel like intake timing would be the same? Maybe that’s what you were saying and I missed it? Also the pop up is it a 50mm or a 52mm and why did you chose to go with whatever it is. Your videos are invaluable, just pure KZbin gold.
@WildAcresFarms3 жыл бұрын
Cutting the crown would be done to open up the squish band to a safe .020” and then you’d re-time the saw and decide what to do from there. You’re correct; intake would not move at all. Perhaps slight changes on exh and transfers.

The piston could be not center in the cyl because it has no rings on it. Maybe this is why you think your exaust port roof isnt simetrical when you timed your exhaust opening degree. What you think about this?
@tinmanssaws3 жыл бұрын
The piston to bore is only a couple thou stock so there really isnt enough movement ro cause any issues.. My grinding was slightky to one side so thats why it was like that..
@RivaRider533 жыл бұрын
@@tinmanssaws Im sure you have tried flatter roof exhaust port? Little bit harder on ring but worth the gain imo. I prefer changing ring couple time to be on safe side. What your opinion?

By taking the exhaust to 98 what did that do to your compression or is compression really not a worry for you?
@tinmanssaws3 жыл бұрын
The pop up brings the conpression back up a bit. And you are correct I don't build for compression.
@goldandgunsprospecting80233 жыл бұрын
The reason I asked is i have a 272xp I ported and the exhaust timing is 98 but my compression was only 120 with a hyway pop-up no base gasket. 017 squish which i know that's right but me thinking something was very wrong i pulled it back apart to check for damage thinking maybe I didn't get it chamfered good. But that was not the case so I decided I'll just throw a base gasket in it to see if it drops and it went down to 100psi. Is 120psi OK then in a ported saw like that? I did three great cycles with it but I didn't try and cut with it. Sounds great though.
@goldandgunsprospecting80233 жыл бұрын
I meant i know that .017 is tight but I went for it.
@tinmanssaws3 жыл бұрын
It takes a bit for compression to come up on a new build, the rings need to seat..
