Күн бұрын

One of the largest coastal batteries installed during the second world war, and yet today very little remains of it.
Viewer request that if possibly I could visit this site and show what was left, so here you go. the sad remains of one of the great guns.
Sorry for the wind it was brutal, and as I am still traveling and filming throughout Europe, all for your next seasons I am keeping it short. Any other requests email me.
PS I will be happy to dive the lake once the weather improves!

Batterie Todt is not far from there and more or less accessible. It's a bit similar to Batterie lindeman. In Turm1 is a museum with some very interesting pieces. The railway gun is a "must see"

Dear Herr von Struckmann, it is of course sad that the Lindemann bunker is largely buried. Fortunately, there are other parts of the Atlantik Wall that are better preserved. Keep it up !

Burying it is actually a cheap way to preserve it. And there are simply to many defensive structures in Europe to preserve them all.

@@barthoving2053 Yes I know, but the largest bunker of the Lindemann position is under the man-made lake. Then it is a shame for tourists not to be able to see this world famous bunker, it is like ordering a hamburger with fries but only receiving a few fries.

Good stuff Tino . Thank you.... It is puzzling why so much stuff from ww2 gets destroyed . There are other places owned by bad people that are actually used as tourist attractions and a damn site older than ww2 . Thanks again Tino and I am really glad you didn't blow away (or lose another drone) wink!

People seem to forget how huge the Atlantic wall is. It's simply impossible to maintain it all and you can ask yourselves if opening a thousand bunkers let's you tell a significant better story then a dozen or a couple of hundreds of bunkers. And unmaintained bunker complexes hold a level of danger. If you want to preserve it, burying it is actually the cheapest way.

Possibly this installation was destroyed by the Allies prior to D Day to convince the Germans that this site was the Invasion Site. It would have been real good to explore and see if it had been possible to restore. I bet it was so damaged, they had to brick up & cover as much as possible. What a tourist site if it was museum quality. On a day like this, it would have been nice to go to the Caffe and have a cup of coffee ( coco ) and a French pastry and/or sandwich. Thanks for the effort..

Perhaps the spoil dumped over the casements will preserve them. Maybe future generations will uncover & discover. I live near the SW French Atlantic coast, some of the bunkers are now in the surf due to coastal erosion. Two were demolished at "Le Grand-Village-Plage" on Ile d' Oleron as they became unstable after cyclone Xynthia.

What does one say other than horrified. I've never been here but I know many people who have and each one who goes here says the same thing. It's German nobody wants to care it's a part of history everybody, even 76 years on, is still trying to escape from. This site isn't being preserved; it's just been left to rack and ruin. Tino, it makes me angry, not every German soldier was a Nazi and it's a part of history that we should never ever be able to forget. our grandfather's fought for freedom against Nazi tyranny and even though these locations well locations where they used to show the UK from and many people died from there shelling it is still not right to just let nature overwhelm these locations, this should be preserved at all cost till the younger generation who will grow up knowing what the Allies did fighting for freedom and who it was they were fighting and the locations that were so important during World War II You know we have nothing like this in the United Kingdom. We have nothing made by the Germans because the Germans never got to the United Kingdom. The only British territory they occupied was one of the outer Islands British colonies (Guernsey) but I could be wrong. it's just bloody sacrilege. If it's made by Germans, destroy it if it was created by Nazis, destroy it if it's anything to do with the access powers then destroy it and let's hope the world forgets about it but there are people like you Tino. myself and millions of others around the world who would like to see these places preserved maybe even turned into a museum but at the very least looked after. I know we can't look after every location and turn every site into a museum but this site is an important site as a military site that should have been preserved.

If you are taking requests..... I've got personal interest in the actions in/around Dillingen (Saar) Germany in December, 1944 - have friends / visited the area several times. I've seen some signs of combat in Dillingen and Saarlouis, been in the restored bunkers in Merzig and Dillingen, but got the 'tourist' tour - not alot of details about the actions that happened there. Another interest in that area during WWII, my great uncle was a pilot in the 395th Panzer Dusters, flying the P47. He flew out of Metz - then Capt Howard 'Swede' Jensen (he was Danish, but the nickname stuck). And, if you get back to Denmark - anything there is of interest to me, especially if it is from the areas around Suldrup and Smidstrup - those are the towns where my family traces it's roots to... Looking forward to your travels, where ever they take you.

As so many bunkers orginating from ww2 there has been times when they were not wanted but as time goes by the interest or the history of the war has been groving and lots of people travel to see these bunkers - in Denmark the story is the same , nobody wanted the Concrete buildings but that has all changed today

Battery Trondenes outside of Harstad Norway has all 4 of the Adolf Canons still intact although only one has been maintained in functioning condition. The other 3 are kept painted. The Norwegian military uses the one operating canon for target practice on cruise ships filled with obese American tourists.
