A great idea, but I do hope they have thought of everything! Surely the gap in the centre will mean in windy conditions the two bridge halves will not line up, meaning the gap between the sides will widen? Look at the millennium bridge in London as an example of when bridge designing can go wrong!!

What caused the collapse of the natural arch? Was there a tectonic plate shift that resulted in an earthquake? Erosion from the elements? I imagine it had to be catastrophic for those living within the castle, regardless. What did people do once this happened?

Brilliant question! The collapse is not thought to be from an earthquake, but rather as a result of natural erosion. Our historians believe that the castle was abandoned before the collapse of the land bridge, as Tintagel ceases to be mentioned in documentary records from the 15th century. However, as only about 8-9% of the total land area has been excavated at Tintagel, there’s still a lot of mystery surrounding this fascinating site and more discoveries to be made.

Went all the way to Tintagel last week from Yorkshire just to visit the castle and it was closed for the winter for bridge building. Can you imagine how mad I was !!!!

the downside will be tourists. How can you tune in to a place with thousands of others with different states of mind. suggest solitude zones. where u can go and experience the cliffs, the noise of waves, see sheep passing, enter a bigger outside space the realisation of which crowded living tunes out so much feedback. have some quiet zones.

I'm not sure the new bridge is a great idea. The old access imparted a sense of the place as one approached. It also had the advantage of keeping visitor numbers lower by effectively excluding screaming kids and lazy people. So after a visitor had climbed up, there was a special atmosphere, quietness and sense of the place. But not any more, soon there will be huge numbers of noisy kids and lots of the sort of people who are always loudly complaining that there isn't a chip shop nearby. :(

I'm not sure the gap is a good idea, especially for those if us with mobility problems and a fear of heights. Please think carefully about how to make the site accessible for more people without terrifying us in the process.

Deliberately leaving a gap in the middle may sound cool and symbolic... but it seems to me that this may impede access for the disabled. Just sayin'.
@nickpolak6270

It's a 2" gap? Whom could that possibly impede? The current pathways are impossible for the differently abled to access at all - in fact they are quite dangerous to many with full use of their limbs.

Am I the only person who thinks this spoils the ambience of the site? In my opinion, things like this should be either left alone, or made to look like it was meant to be there.

Make the bridge out of stone. Modern metal structures look like crap and suck you right out of the immersive historical experience.
