My first Mathews bow was a 1996 Signature. It was a 41" ATA hunting bow designed for finger shooters (less pinch on your fingers when pulled back). Bows were much lighter back then. The 41" ATA Signature was about 3.5 pounds. Even though I switched over to a release eventually, I shot that bow for 17 seasons & harvested a large number of deer with it. Each year Mathews cranked out something new, but I just kept telling myself I would wait until the next new marketing hype item came out. Near the end of that 17 year period, the one thing (SoloCam) that first put Mathews on the map was starting to disappear. My current bow (2013 model different brand) has factory specs of 35" ATA, 6.25" brace height, 340 fps, & 4.5 pounds. A 2024 bow of the same brand would be 34" ATA, 6.25" brace height, 342 fps, & 4.5 pounds. I would feel silly replacing my 10+ year old bow. I like most everything about it. Buy whatever you can afford & just enjoy it for years to come. I prefer 34-35" ATA bows. Compared to my previous bow, that still seems short!

Really cool you're doing this comparison! I bought a Bear Cruzer G3 last year. First bow, and it's relatively short. Wasn't 100% sure I made the right call... but over time, after talking to some folks, I figured out it's fine if you just practice. But it's cool to see what kind of thoughts you came away with after trying both of these out. Thanks Tim!

Good morning from New Zealand! Love the videos Tim and the whole community you guys have in Spokane… my suggestion, Shoot 40 arrows with one bow and then again with the other bow, score only the last 30 of each bow. I believe the constant swap n between releases may have cause, I said “MAY”, the big variance. Just a suggestion from an old guy with just a year of experience shooting 2 different index releases from 2 different bows, a 33ATA hunting and a 40ATA target…
@crusher80177 ай бұрын
Agree, changing the bow every 3 or 5 shots would be confusing.

Would love to see a more apples to apples comparison. Either move hunting set up to target bow or move target set up (sight, bars, release) to your hunting bow. That way you can really see if the longer ata makes a difference.

Man your video was excellent . I have to say one thing I shoot in very similar way every time the weather allows. The thing is you had excellent first 3 arrows on 50 with the Darton because you were fresh and not tired. Also because you didn't have a lens you were not overcompensating . Too me I can see the float of the bow from the fatigue. I have very similar experience when I shoot. I normally shoot 1 arrow at 20 if it is an x I go to 30 if it is a 10 or x a go at 50 and shoot only 50. My first 3 arrows will be 10 and 9s after that it is all downhill. After I get exhausted I shoot one arrow and pause for 2 minutes than again until even with brake I can't make 10s . Than I go back to 30 shoot few more 10s and I go home. Any super nice video please make one more.

Very interesting results and great production. I like the longer bow for 3D events like TAC, but I prefer a shorter ATA for treestand/saddle hunting Whitetails.
@aarongilbertson30748 ай бұрын
I personally believe that ata is less important than riser length. That darton's riser isn't much shorter than the riser on the pse and it shoots pretty close for the idea.

Um the consequence you draw past your anchor and the settle. I'm wondering how long the draw and d loop are considering the differing string angles. To long of the d loop will change your float pattern compared to a shorter d loop.

Pretty interesting and fun video comparing apples 🍎 to oranges 🍊 and the close results were pretty cool to see. 29 inch ATA is not an average size for a hunting bow it’s on the short end of the spectrum of 29-34, although there are more 30 ATA and lower bows in the market than there use to be. Great shooting with both, especially the Darton out to distance. I would like to see an uneven 3D course run with both of those bows 😎🏹🏹🦌🐻

I prefer a longer ATA. Anything under 33 inches feels a little "twittchy" to me. It doesn't help I have a 32 inch draw length so string angle is pretty severe with shorter bows, but I just feel like a longer riser makes them more stable at my DL

He uses the Stan SoleX. It's a very nice "budget" index release. It's cheaper than many other index releases and still has great adjustability. I got one after TC's recommendation and it's my favorite index release by far.

Tim! You take advice based on review right? Look at your release hand when you shoot. Try the 4 finger, please! You already lock your fingers in place, allow yourself to have the leverage!! I did it and never looked back. Since I don't pull through on a clicker, it gives me more leverage to stay locked back and keep good strong tension for a strong shot!

It looked like you needed a bit more weight on the front of the Consequence (the bar was kicking up on the follow thru), how much of any difference was due to the different setup rather than the different bow ?
@colingregory74648 ай бұрын
I do not use a lens in my target sight, my scores have always dropped significantly when I use a scope lens and risen back to the pre lens scores immediately I remove it. The lens looses me about 80/100 points a round on a 144 arrow (York round )
@colingregory74648 ай бұрын
For a field round it made almost no difference switching between a five pin short rod setup (NFAA bowhunter?) and an Unlimited setup, the five pin setup is so much less hassle and so much more fun (for me !)

Sure, longer bows shoot longer arrows but the longer strings have to cut more air - which slows down the whole bow!

There is a difference in how they anchor and release the string, so if he's tuned them for the release it'll change how they shoot. Also there are private hers running index releases, you can be just as accurate with either.
