Tldr: we had a baby. It's a boy. (Weoddabebeitsaboi)
In this video I share a bit about my experience with my tiny house and cover a little history and the changes that we've had in life. I was hoping to grab some footage from my screen share for SketchUp for the design process, although that was not successful because I had some issues with SketchUp v2016 on Linux despite it working previously. Of course, I'm also using Debian 12 as the home computer for this house because why not.

That looks awesome. We did a 16x60 shed home and have been in it for 6 years now. We love it. And we're mortgage free!

16X60 ... That's a good size. The home where I was raised was about 900 SF, it was perfectly comfortable. I'm in my own home now which is about 1,800 living and 400 SF attached garage full of junk. I'm paying to Air Condition (4 tons) all that extra SF as a widowed retiree. 900 SF would be perfect for me with likely 1/2 the A/C power bill.

@@gphilipc2031I would have thought, that any well designed air conditioning or cooling system, would have "zones" selectable so that you only need to pay to air con or heat, some rooms only. Newer systems could acheive that by some kind of electronic controls, while older systems might have some kind of vents, shutters or water control valves. Just my thoughts.

I think it has held up very well for being 10 years old.

This is good. The thing missing for me is aesthetics because I'm so into interior decorating, but it's not that bad as a tiny home. The bathroom entrance is a thing I couldn't do because I'm disabled, and I'd need a real staircase going up to a loft if I had one. The fold out desk looked like the Ikea Norden gateleg? I have one and think it would work great in a tiny home, depending on the layout.

I do really wish I'd known more about accessibility when I was designing it. I really didn't learn about things like ADA until my first audit at my old job. I agree with the aesthetic aspect. I'm also planning on getting a small armoire for it in the future. I've never been to IKEA before but I'm very open to recommendations!

Thank you for sharing, to me it seems you miss living there. But it is just an impression. I was asked a couple of times if a tiniy house would not be something for me because I have a normad life. I go where the jobs are. But I never was a big fan, I just found it interesting and wanted to know more about it. During Covid lots of peaople tried it out but they wehere alsow praining it. That made me suspicious. In the meantime downsides come more to the daylight. Theats why I watched your video. I wanted to learn how you feel about it 10 years later and I feel a mixture of feelings from you missing but in the same moment common senxe that you cannot live there because of your child. I would love to learn more about the opportunities you have now for it. Because in my opinion you spend a lot of money and effort to build it and now it stands around unused. I thinkn it is too expensive for loosing its purpose. What do you think?.

@LadyTamika Personally I think that people have a near unlimited ability to adjust to our circumstances. I really do miss living in there. All of the windows flood the space with light. I'd always wanted to liveaboard a sailboat and I imagine living in a tinyhouse to have some similarities. We would like to rent out the tiny and main house and find a blue water boat to liveaboard and travel. I think all of the lessons I learned during the build and how much I saved (we basically paid half of market rental prices for the same amenities, less sweat equity) make it a worthwhile adventure. I'm hoping that I can use it as an affordable housing solution for someone getting a start in life (especially given we're a stones throw from the local university), I've considered selling the main house and hauling it into the mountains when/if I can disconnect from traditional employment, there's the possibility of Airbnb and lastly I could possibly sell it. Thank you for your thoughtful words!
