I was married for 27 years and having a home is so overrated. My BFF of 50 years bought a house in 1996 for $129,000 and when he bought it he boasted “I’m a homeowner”. 3 years ago he had to quit work due to heart problems and in 25 years he refied every few years so he pays $1000 a month which is good but he has a second mortgage that he’s not paid on for years. So the bottom line is: 1. He can’t sell it until he deals with the second 2. It’s falling apart and he can’t afford repairs 3. Since he refied it again 5 years ago it will never be paid off. Unless he lives to 97 and the second is still a problem 4. He’s filed bankruptcy twice but his recent medical bills are outrageous. 5. His wife had t worked in 20 years and needs medical attention but she doesn’t have any insurance so they can’t do a thing for her 6. What’s pathetic is he has the ability to ignore most of these problems and watch TV all day long. She is stressed beyond belief and since she’s almost 300 lbs I don’t think she will live much longer and she is a wonderful person. He is 320 lbs. 7. Repairs: Plumbing is really bad and one bathroom can’t be used. The house sits on a concrete foundation and the plumbing is encased in the concrete. Ain’t no lie. The yard is dead. The roof is getting bad. They’ve kept cats through the years a the carpet looks awful. The house has no grounded AC outlets, 2 prong only. That’s a couple of the major issues.

Same everything, even age. To top it off I started doing Door Dash and Uber eats, making a minimum of $100 a day, three weeks into it I had a minor accident, (not while working) and my insurance company totaled my car. The airbags didn’t even deploy. I was counting on doing the gig work the rest of the year in that car, it got over 32 mpg even with 167k miles on it. Got a used van, it gets 17-18 mpg, so delivering isn’t nearly as appealing, BUT, the car lot I bought my van from hired me, and I’m learning a whole new career. The pay isn’t great, but I dash a few hours a week here and there to add to the bottom line. I did get the van though because the price was right, and if push comes to shove, I can live in it. 🤷♀️
