best vocals dylan has done since Couch imo. he's clearly been practicing alot. brevity rerecord, spokes on jetty's album, and now this. his screams are getting so good. hype for the new album!

Uhh.. Celebrate?? The vocals/screams and overall album was a masterpiece
@twitchthepocket5 жыл бұрын
@@biscuit6623 Celebrate is great but in my opinion Couch is far and away the best album they've made. Celebrate's vocals are good, but not as good as Couch's. This single might get my vote for as good as Couch's, ergo best vocals since couch!
@jle2385 жыл бұрын
@@twitchthepocket Nah Celebrate really was a masterpiece. That album was perfect. Even the lyric about the couch not being long enough as he remembers on the song Headache. Man that hit me the first time I heard it after listening to couch all the way through and then hearing Celebrate album immediately after.
@twitchthepocket5 жыл бұрын
@@jle238 I don't dislike Celebrate. It definitely gets rank 2 in my book, but a few factors solidify it's spot under Couch for me. Mat has a lot less vocals on couch, I believe that was due to him injuring his voice, but even still, I love when he trades back and forth with Dylan, so not having as much of that counts against it imo. Secondly, Celebrate is where TMP began to transition to a more pop punky song structure. Not one of the tracks on Couch, Antarctica or the 7" split have a chorus in them. Celebrate features up beat chord-strummy choruses, taking away from a lot of tension and giving the live show a clear indication that it's "go nuts time". This is not necessarily a bad thing, just another reason I put couch as rank 1. And finally, the lyrical content moves away from spoken word poetry into more-normal songwriting. It retained some elements, but ever since Pleasant Living, the lyricism has gotten a lot less traditional midwest emo. Again, I love every album this band has put out, and will continue to love every album they put out in the future. But the band has undoubtedly changed from midwest emo to mwemo-influenced pop punk.
@jle2385 жыл бұрын
@@twitchthepocket Well I won't give as long as an answer as you but I respect your reasoning. I believe Celebrate has much better written lyrics. I think musically the instruments sound better and more tight. I think the recording is also better. Celebrate still has a raw feel to me but not so raw that it gives me a headache. Not I'm not saying couch is bad. It's not my number 2. Swell is number 2 for me but couch is 3rd. I do love Midwest emo but I think the pop punk sound worked perfectly mixed with the Midwest emo and set them apart more from other bands in that genre.

@Ekop Haem Kid? I'm 33 and love Sum 41 (although the new album was a tad disappointing and they haven't really done anything amazing since Chuck). I'm barely into "modern pop punk", I'm actually a bit out of the loop but trying to keep up to date as possible. But this was actually my whole point and I had Hell Song in mind. Even though it has been done before, they took that concept to even weirder levels. The Hell Song definitely has a lot more toys and maybe a tad more production value, but it was just filmed in like someone's room whereas here they've at least gone to some trouble to make a little set despite being cheap. It just feels somewhat more impressive.

@millerhxc5 жыл бұрын
@@FabulousKilljoy It's a matter of taste I guess. I like a lot of the riffs on their but I didn't feel like any song was really a "new classic" besides The People Vs and maybe 1 or 2 others. Some of it was just too bland for my liking, like the stuff that basically sounds like it's trying to be Muse or Arctic Monekys. I liked about half the album.
