I can only imagine the Fox News, NewsMax, and OAN coverage plus the Evangelical/Fundamentalist religious leader’s resulting “news” coverage and pulpit stories if that idea took off! God only knows what sort of sinister and demonic story they would invent just to terrify their viewers into outlawing “flashing RGBW lights” that are obviously “used to indoctrinate the children” with their cute flashing colors and which must be stopped at all cost in order to “protect and defend the innocent children from demonic attack by those satanic heathens”. It isn’t like they’re known for letting the truth or reason get in the way of a “good” [make believe] story about the LGBTQIA+ Community. It’s almost scary to imagine what they would create just to stir that hate pot that brings them all the viewership numbers and fleece the viewers for ever more campaign contributions to fund and facilitate anything and everything that runs contrary to the actual Christian cause of “love thy neighbor as thyself”. 🙁 Otherwise, I love the idea…though I’m not sure what the modern hanky “RGBW LED” code would be for “non-binary trans seeking cis, trans, and non-binary women”…lol!

These are drone lights (on Alibaba) that are resold on Aliexpress as bike lights. As suggested by the flimsy rubber band, they will hold fine on drone arms. In this use case, short battery life is indeed fine. If used for on bicycles, I would advise to use another kind of rubber band, like O-Ring seals (Chinese like to do that on bicycles products).
@iamjadedhobo2 жыл бұрын
If used as a bike light I would suggest replacing the controller chip with something that has no strobe modes *at all*. Remove the driver mosfets for green and blue amd increase the series resistors to reduce the current to something like 50 ~ 60mA. That might not be enough to illuminate the area around you as if it were day, but it will prevent blinding all the other road users around you and cause *them* to end up under the wheels of a lorry.

That thing is adorable, I want one, and I would upgrade that cell to the largest you could fit in the case. I did this for a tiny spy camera that had literally the tiniest lithium cell I've ever seen in my life. Way undersized for the job, and left a fair bit of empty space in the case. The camera would only run for maybe 5 minutes on a charge, but was advertised to run for 90 minutes. After some use they wouldn't even power up. Was able to find a cell meant for one of those toy micro drones that fit into the case perfectly, and while the cell I had was already well used, it still ran for like 45 minutes. Much better.

Interesting stuff, even though most of the blinking modes are useless. strao-on, giggle! FYI, around here those are called tadpole lights since once they are off the bike it looks like it has a tadpole tail. They are handy for their ease of mounting. Sounds like it would be decent if it had an upgrade to an 18650 battery otherwise I am not interested in something I have to charge between each and every bike ride. But I will say I am glad to see more of the 4 LED lights coming about as I own a 4 pixel TV that also uses Yellow as the 4th pixel and it's like 33% brighter than 3 pixel TVs and the yellow & golds are awesome. I always wonder why we don't see more consumer products with a 4th pixel. Dave's Garage did an interesting video on 4 pixel individually addressable RGBW LED strip lights recently. Turns out they work like one giant shift register. If I knew more programming I would be very tempting to get a set as his projects really look awesome. Also, as a cyclist, you want to be recognized therefore use the standard white on the front, and red on the tail which also helps determine the direction of movement.

Ive also seen the crazy american extreme torches that they say are equivalent to lasers etc - but I for one would prefer more trustworthy reviews from someone who seems to really appreciate led lighting on a balance between runtime brightness, recharge times and, of course, safety. - Perhaps throw in a couple of DIY options too?

Interesting that none of these gadgets seem to use resistor arrays: while they do cost more than individual resistors, at least in some cases the savings in assembly time/cost is worth it. Presumably the assembly cost savings isn't as worth it when making these little gadgets overseas.
@lo2740 Жыл бұрын
no you are wrong, the assembly overcost of individual resistors is way less than the overcost or resistor arrays themselves, beside they make the routing more shitty, and finally we reuse parts between designs all the time, and store resistors in 30K reels, it would make zero sense to use resistors arrays, they would end up partly wasted most of time. That is why they are not used on mass product designs. For ultra cheap products, with die on pcb we would use carbon traces to replace smd resistors.

Just wondering, can it be powered up whilst charging? If it can, then I guess you could realistically increase its useful runtime by running it from a power bank? As a cycle light, then I guess it is perfectly acceptable if it only works for a few minutes, since most cyclists don't seem to use lights after dark anyway.

mine has a cell that is half of yours, but mine is also missing the 4 transistors that yours have although the functioning of the light is exactly similar. wonder how it works

Quite nice indeed, though cycling through all these modes with a single button... meh. Simple and straightforward circuit. Lack of overdischarge protection surprised me.

Bicycles: annoy everyone on the road, and now also annoy you from a distance with flashing lights!
