I really like listening to your train of thoughts, it feels somehow personal despite me not knowing you in the slightest, makes me feel a little bit warmer inside and that’s a nice feeling. I’m alone most of the time because I am either studying or working or trying to relax after doing either of those and videos like these help me wind down. I don’t mean it as disrespectful to your work but I often don’t even watch, I make my own doodles while listening and just implementing the things you talk about into my own drawing. Had to start doing it on actual paper cuz a few people didn’t like me handing in work with doodles and scribbles all over it. Anyways I guess this is my long winded way of saying thanks for talking in a human way in your videos instead of scripts and stuff. Unless it is scripted, and then well, you’re really good at making scripts then.

When I'm at school I like to do this thing with my friends and we draw on the desk (it usually starts with a very basic shape) and the next period someone adds to it and so on and so forth... this can go on for a day or maybe a week. They can range from anything as simple as a face, or a landscape drawn onto the entirety of the desk. The teacher of the class often takes a picture of it if she really likes the drawing. Anyways that's what I like to draw, and how I like to draw.

Charles I did that too! Every week, I had one class where I had to move rooms and I added something on a drawing already on the desk. Next week, someone added some more. We went like this for 5 or 6 weeks maybe, then I got sick and couldn't go to that class. When I returned, no matter what I drew, the kid just wouldn't draw anymore, and I had no way of knowing who it was, since everyone in the school had to go in that room, by rotation, and kids changed seats almost every class. :/ He/she probably felt abandoned. That or my drawings are really shitty,lol. XD

Perhaps the one thing I like most about mechanical pencils, or "lead holders" (I use a lead holder with 2-mm leads of varying grades) is that you can sharpen the lead to a very fine point with a "pointer," and no matter how much you use it or how many times you "sharpen" it, it doesn't get down to a 1-1/2 inch long nubbin that you're trying to draw with. Just like a pen, it always stays the same length and weight and feel in your hand.

You're kind of a weird guy, and maybe not the most studied expert. But your drawings are so fun to watch happen and you've got the real wisdom that comes with experience. "You'll get better at things you do a lot, and you'll do things a lot more if you enjoy them", "You don't have to draw a stick figure or a straight line, just draw what you enjoy". This is the realest advice for drawing and for life.

So the beginning part about wondering if your time drawing with a pen is close on the time you logged in school with a pen got me so I did the math: Lets generalize because obviously i don't know your life personally. Let's say you went to school from September 1st to June 30th without missing any days of school(Sick days, skipping class, Superintendent's Day, Snow days Etc.) However will we include breaks(Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break etc.) in our count. I'm not going to show the math for this but adding Every month between September and June equals 303 days. Let's gather that you had every Saturday and Sunday off. Assuming you didn't go to school for July and August, knowing there are 52 weeks in year, we can subtract 8 weeks. 52 - 8 = 44 weeks So to get rid of weekends we will have to multiply the number of weeks in school by two(Saturday and Sunday) and then subtract that number from the total days(303) 44 x 2 = 88 303 - 88 = 215 days in school from Monday to Friday in one year. Let's assume you went to school for 13 years (Kindergarten to Twelfth grade) So we can multiply the days in school by the years went to figure out the total number of days. 215 x 13 = 2,795 days Now we have to add in the extra days from a Leap year assuming you started school the year following a Leap year. So that would mean you had an extra day in Third grade(1), Seventh grade(2), and Eleventh grade(3). 2,795 + 3 = 2,798 total days Now let's assume you were in school all of those days for a total of 6 hours each day(9am to 3pm) We have to multiply the total number of days by the number of hours each day to find how many total hours you were in school. 2,798 x 6 = 16,788 hours So to recap, Assuming you went to school every Monday through Friday from Kindergarten to Twelfth grade for six hours every day; assuming you used a pencil and nothing else non-stop only for the time you were in school and never at any other point, you would have used a pencil for 16,788 hours.

I bought one of these a year ago & they are great for writing equations & matrices in mathematics. Your drawing looks like a character in a video game I saw long ago. One of my professors in college made us use mechanical pencils, rulers, & engineering computation pads for all our work. It is an excellent habit to be into when doing maths. As a maths tutor now, I never do maths in pen anymore. Another obvious advantage is that pencil is eraseable (yes eraseable pens exist, but they are hit & miss for writing, and they usually work by friction/heating so if you leave paper in a hot place your writing can disappear).

Thanks, as the .2mm lead did not break, wow, you are beautifully sensitive to the paper's surface making such a grand mysterious drawing invention, it could be a panel in a graphic novel or the illustration for a children's story.

Peter, there is a UNI pencil called the Kuru Toga. That pencil has a mechanism built-in that actually turns the lead a fractional amount every single time you place the lead down onto a piece of paper. So the pencil would essentially stay perfectly uniform and not get ground down on its side.
@breezyhillproductions3497 жыл бұрын
the finished drawing looks like some stuff you'd see in a science fiction movie.
@CoreFineArt7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you've tried on yet but, in relating to your comment about the line width changing... try the Uni Kura Toga. It's designed to rotate to the sharpest edge when you lift the pencil from the paper. Honestly, I bought it because it looked cool but, learned this and started utilizing it. Should check it out.
@JaneMetcalfe7 жыл бұрын
I've just mentioned this myself (before reading your comment) and the mechanism does work. Peter would be the best artist to try it out though, and boy, would he be thorough lol.

I think I can appreciate all pens, mechanical pencils and traditional pencils, sheerly because of the variety and their different uses. While pens are fun for quick, movement based doodles, mechanical pencils come more in handy for cleaner work, for more precision. Then traditional pencils seems to work best for landscapes, and filling in large areas with shade. This is all purely personal opinion, as I found it interesting how you feel you work best with pens ^^

im going through alot rn in my life and im soooo sad that i cant draw anymore... i have almost 6 months without drawing cuz i just cant mentally form images anymore. life stressed me out more than i ever thought possible... im struggling just to get by but everyone sees me as a rock or some type of robot that always has it together when i have no idea what im doing tomorrow... idk how but this piece that you randomly made summed up how i was feeling inside and i was never the type to just openly say things like this but thanks man... truly amazing how art can communicate things when words dont do it anymore
