Dude, you're my savior! I have a Radiolink AT9 and I absolutely love it. I picked up a Taranis and an Orange module pretty much solely because I wanted better control (and acro mode) of/on my RTF Inductrix. There was another small reason - the Chinglish manual for the AT9 is incredibly hard to read so the radio is really hard to learn how to use. Not only is the Taranis almost a multirotor industry standard so there are guides (just like this!) everywhere, but the Taranis manual is leaps and bounds better as well. But the main reason by a huge margin was being able to really fly my Inductrix. Anyways, (sorry for getting sidetracked) thanks a ton for the video. I really appreciate it. So I followed your instructions verbatim, and am a bit confused on just one part. I went to the mixer page and channels 5 and 6 were both blank. I had already set the momentary switch just like it shows in the video, so I thought that was kind of odd; it must have not saved or something. But I went into channel 5 and set the source as SC, and channel 6 as SH. So here's my question, what exactly does SC do? I thought SH was the flight mode switch, so what is SC used for? Also, when first plugging the module into the bay the LED stays lit continuously. You might want to mention that so other newbies don't freak out when they don't see it blinking right away since you said "once you do X the module should start blinking" at about 1:23. I figured it would be configured later in the instructions, but some might not think that and freak out. Seriously, thanks a ton man - you saved me a huge headache.

I'm no Taranis expert, but my limited understanding is that the inputs screen & the mixer screen are subtly different. The input screen is where you assign physical switches/gimbals/knobs to 'virtual' channels. The mixer screen is where you assign these virtual channels to actual transmitter channels. When you make a new model & choose the multirotor option, the Taranis automatically assigns the gimbals' 4 axes to 4 virtual channels in the input screen & gives them the names Thr/Ail/Ele/Rud, then also automatically maps them to the first 4 actual transmitter channels. But a virtual channel can actually map to *any* transmitter channel. So when you are setting up your Inductrix & tell the Taranis that you want virtual channel 6 on the inputs screen to be SH, it doesn't automatically add it to the actual transmitter channel 6 on the mixer screen - because you might want it on a different transmitter channel. AFAIK transmitter channel 5 doesn't do anything on the Inductrix (whether the input is SC or another switch makes no difference). So you could, if you wanted to, use virtual channel 5 on the inputs screen for SH & then assign that to transmitter channel 6 on the mixer screen. But I chose to skip virtual channel 5 on the inputs screen & put SH on virtual channel 6 just so the virtual channel numbering matches the transmitter channel numbering. Thanks for picking up on the flashing though, I'll try to add a note.

Thanks for the reply, that actually helps me understand the way the Taranis works a lot. Definitely will serve me well in the future. So what does the SC switch do? I know that the momentary SH changes flight modes, but what is the three-position SC for?
@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
Switches don't have an inherent function/purpose, they just send low/zero/high when you flick them & what actually happens depends what the flight controller receiving that low/zero/high is programmed to do on whatever channel you mix it to. The Inductrix's flight controller is programmed to toggle flight mode when it receives a momentary low->high signal on channel six of its receiver. Because SH is the only momentary switch on the Taranis we use that & assign it to transmitter channel 6 on the mixer page. But if for example SB was also a momentary switch we could use that to switch flight mode on the Inductrix, simply by assigning SB to channel 6 on the mixer page. I'm not sure if the Inductrix flight controller actually does anything to input on channel 5 of its receiver, which is why I didn't bother assigning anything to channel 5 on the mixer page.
@TheSolongsidekick8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the explanation, I kinda understood switches already but that definitely helps cement my understanding of what's actually going on inside the controller. I was specifically asking what the switch assigned to channel 5 in the blog post (SC) does in this case. I forgot that you didn't have channel 5 assigned in your video, and that it was only assigned in that picture on the blog post. Maybe he has it assigned to different rate/expo levels, or knows something we don't haha. Thanks again.

Nice work on this one video. I wonder what causes the issue of it binding but no control. Sometimes it takes four or five power cycles to get it to work.
@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
I've wondered whether it might be something to do with the arming procedure - because there's no manual arming action that the user has to do, so maybe there is some sort of automatic arming handshake when the quad & tx connect that isn't perfectly implemented by the orangerx module?

Great video, super useful. I didn't think of taking that dead zone out of the throttle. incidentally, I had to move it to -65.2 or it wouldn't work at all - ended up pushing it out to -70 because the throttle wouldn't stop during/after a crash. just fyi. thanks again!

Thanks for this video, I had struggled trying to get the orangerx to bind, followed this but my Inductrixfpv just flips backwards and is upside down, could it be because it seems to go full throttle with one click of the throttle? thanks
@AndyRial7 жыл бұрын
Clive Parrott I was having the same issue when I moved the throttle stick it would go haywire and lowering throttle to 0 would not shut down the motors. Try this: make sure you reverse Yaw and ailerons in your outputs. Also lower all inputs to 80 on the inputs page. In outputs make everything including throttle 70-70. Set flight mode switch to the spring toggle switch SH in inputs CH6 and add it to the MIX page CH6. Make sure the arrow points up after the SH.

Does the tiny whoop have more power than that? Because when you were at 50 - 75% throttle the quad was barely getting off the ground.

Did you add channel 6 to the Mixer pager as well as on the Inputs page? I forgot to cover that in the video (I added a annotation but that doesn't show up on mobile) & omitting it will cause the quad to seemingly randomly switch to rate mode after a while which might explain the crazy behavior.
@txsatelectronics61568 жыл бұрын
I did add channel 6 to both locations and I notice after it freaks out and lands im still in the blue mode (stable)

In that case I think the best I can do is direct you to facebook.com/groups/tinywhoop/ if you're not already a member there! Lots of discussion & knowledge being shared there, so hopefully somebody has experienced similar behavior to you?

Thanks CJ....im already a member of that group and everyone has been very helpful and there has been others with the same problem. I just order another Tiny Whoop last night with its own remote so I can run further test to maybe see if its more of a remote setting problem or Whoop problem. Have you seen any of the Whoop main ic boards that have flaked out ??
@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
There was certainly somebody on the group a while back that had troubleshooted until the stage that the main board was the prime suspect & he ordered a new Inductrix, I don't recall what the outcome was though. Looking on the positive side hopefully you'll end up with 2 working Tiny Whoops!

I cant for the life of me get the flight mode to work set to CH6 SH switch and nothing it shows on the radio its switching but nothing on the quad. Any ideas would help. Figured it out just had to delete the CH6 inputs and Mixer that I added and add over and now seems to switch back and forth fine.
6 жыл бұрын
Hmm... this doesn't work. You said in the video there's a dead zone in the throttle? I have the opposite problem, I can't get the motors to stop spinning. The quad binds ok but the throttle won't go to zero. As soon as I hit the throttle after binding, the props spin up and it lifts off but not enough to break ground effect. I thought it was because I was using a custom version from Tinywhoop, but even the stock inductrix does the same thing. any ideas?

My inductrix binds fine with the Taranis, I get a solid light on the quad , but the quad does not start up .. Any suggestions?
@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
A lot of people (myself included) seem to have the issue that sometimes the quad will bind (solid light) but won't respond to controls, until you disconnect the battery from the quad & reconnect it a few times. Remember the dead zone on the throttle as well.
@tmuzaffar18 жыл бұрын
+CJ Davies Thanks CJ, I got it working the issue was that my default channel order was not TAER on the Taranis radio setup, so when the default multirotor was setup throttle was on the wrong channel and therefore not arming.

@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
There is an LED on the board, which is blue for self-level/horizon mode & red for acro/rate mode. If channel 6 isn't setup properly it can switch of its own accord while flying.
@odinata8 жыл бұрын
CJ Davies As far as I can tell, the momentary switch I set to channel 6 like in the video does nothing. The blue light is blinking erratically, but no red light. but it goes crazy sometimes.Loss of signal? Also, no low lbattery warning? it just drops.
@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
Did you add channel 6 to the mixer page as well as the input page? I forgot to do this in the video, I added an annotation & updated the description but a lot of people don't see that. The Inductrix doesn't have any sort of voltage telemetry, so it can't warn you of low voltage. Once you get a feel for how long your particular size of battery lasts, you can add a timer to your Taranis.

I've only flown mine inside my house, so I can't comment from my own experience! Make sure you're using the 2.4GHz antenna that came with the module though, not a 5.8GHz antenna that you might have from some FPV equipment - as they both use the same connection the wrong one will fit on the module.

@CJDavies8 жыл бұрын
Yup, I forgot it in the video because I'm a scrub :3 If you look through the comments on this vid to the little conversation I had with SoLongSidekick I briefly explained the difference between the Inputs page & the Mixer page. Essentially the Inputs page just tells the Taranis what physical sticks/switches to listen to, while the Mixer page tells it what tx channels to actually transmit those inputs on. The basic throttle/yaw/pitch/roll are added to the Mixer automatically when you setup a new multirotor model but when you add a switch you have to add it yourself.
@NeuralYogi8 жыл бұрын
+CJ Davies I gotcha and no worries but maybe put it in the video cause I feel most ppl will miss that in my opinion. but that's for the great video and help!
