If you load the wood in your stove in a front to back fashion you should be able to get more wood in the stove, with less chance of the fire rolling into the door as it burns down, or rolling out onto the floor when you open the door. Then, as another viewer commented, bank the coals completely to one side and load the stove completely full for the longest burn time. Overnight burns will still be challenging even if you use hard woods exclusively. I made a fire rake that i use to move hot coals out of the ashes and into position for a bank on one side of the firebox, using a broken bow rake, with tines welded to a broken golf club, the rake head is parallel to the handle. Have a great time playing with food & fire, and heating with your new stove.

Thank you for the tips! I have to break out the welder for another project so I might try to replicate your fire rake idea.

I am really impressed with all your progress with the Airstream, your in progress videos have been interesting and you guys did a great job. I love wood stoves, I have had them in the last 2 homes I flipped in the PNW, and the vibe of a glass door wood stove, along with a beer, a book, some rain falling outside makes life nice indeed. Congratulations on your project, you should be proud.

My tiny house will be less than 200 sq ft. I've been looking for a stove small enough. This thing is so freaking cute! Thanks for the info

Wood stoves are fantastic. I have one in my home. The only problem is they can too hot and I have to open the house doors up for a little bit. I wish mine had a glass on the door so I could see the fire 🔥 Looks so good.

Thanks! We got it way too hot a few times and had to open our doors and windows to air out but it’s a good problem to have 😅

I would get some cast iron stove top blackening to keep your fireplace always looking good. Also, a soapstone humidifier. Due to the size restrictions, you may have to make your own. Added: you must live in a humid environment, so the humidifier may not be necessary.

Thanks for the suggestions. It definitely is dry in here

A tip for my fellow, tiny stove user…. I would suggest getting the accessory that lets you pull air in from the outside so that you’re not sucking air from inside the room. It will hit your face much more efficiently.

That could be something we will look into for a future upgrade. Thanks for the suggestion 🔥

Idk if I personally will use a tiny wood stove since I live in the south and it gets hot enough to have near-permanent swamp-ass (minus a few weeks of 42 degree F weather) and I would worry about about my pets bumping into it and getting burnt. But I do agree it’s very lovely and adorable! I would love to be able to chop wood and have a tiny fire in my house! (Safely lol) it is indeed such a vibe!
@Meghanandmatt6 күн бұрын
A tiny wood stove would definitely be waaay too hot for the south! I have family with a dog and wood stove and I think they do a pretty good job of not burning themselves on it but it’s definitely a consideration
@CapeCodTrainTodd11 күн бұрын
Wow that wood stove is really tiny and cute. I would have angled it towards the sitting area so as to enjoy the flames while relaxing.
@Meghanandmatt11 күн бұрын
@@CapeCodTrainTodd that was the original plan actually but it would have changed our clearances

Would you recommend such installation in a ProMaster conversion van? Is the wood stove a better solution than a diesel/propane heater? I’m looking for a solution to avoid winterizing the fresh/grey water tanks in the van. Also, how did you exhaust the cooking grease fumes out of your RV?
@Meghanandmatt10 күн бұрын
A wood stove in a van is definitely possible and the Dwarf 3kw lite might be a better option due to the smaller space. We haven’t been able to keep a fire all night in the stove using wood but are going to try compressed logs to see if that works. We also have a diesel heater we run when we’re gone for periods of time or don’t have time to start a fire and let it cool before leaving. I will say the wood stove definitely takes more commitment, effort, and attention than a diesel heater, but the warmth and vibes are unmatched. We had a gas heater in our old Promaster we tapped into the vans fuel tank and it worked really well and we never had any frozen pipes or tanks but we also made it a point to chase warm weather. We have a skylight and 2 maxx air fans plus some little usb fans we use to vent out cooking smells. Hope that helps 🤙🏼

I see others using compressed sawdust bricks to sustain longer fires in tiny wood stoves. Might be worth a look?
@Meghanandmatt11 күн бұрын
Yep we are going to try those to see if we can get a more efficient fire! We’ll post an update eventually with our findings

Now that this couple has installed an almost perfect install of their wood stove by using metal sheets to protect heat transfer to the side wall and the foundation that the stove sits on. Why not protect the back wall, too? That gets just as hot🔥! Suggest installing one more metal sheet to complete this project. Better safe than sorry.
@Meghanandmatt11 күн бұрын
The back wall is also the same aluminum as the heat shield. I explained that in the beginning

The novelty of a retro tiny stove will wear off and you will go back to a modern stove because of all of the extra work.

We live in an airstream we don’t have space for a full sized stove
@cody48110 күн бұрын
Fire overnight? BAHAHAHA. Yep been there done that. You will learn what it means to "bank" a fire. Save ashes to put on top of a very hot bed of coals. Creosote. Begin planning now on how to disassemble reassemble the chimney quickly. Lay your pipe at an angle with the bottom in a metal pan. Pour a very small amount of diesel fuel in the top then light the bottom and let the flame rage up the pipe. Then reinstall the pipes. Learn what your pipe sounds like when totally clean by thumping it with a tiny hammer. Then after you learn all this put in a propane burner that can be installed or removed very easily so you can burn wood or propane.

I have a tinyWoodstove dwarf in my cabin. They’re cool. However I hate to be negative but it looks like you’ve focused way too much on vibing and not nearly enough on clearances. This is from TWS website Distances to Combustibles Without Shielding 18” from back of the stove 16” from sides of the stove 36" from the top of the stove to the ceiling 18” from single-wall pipe 2" from insulated pipe Distances to Combustibles with an Insulated Heat Shield (1/2 reduction) 9” from back of stove 8” from sides of stove 9” from single-wall pipe From the looks of it you haven’t met a single clearance. Please review and rethink. I’d hate to see a 1970s airstream burn down
@Meghanandmatt5 күн бұрын
Thanks for your concern, but you are wrong and must have missed the air cooled heat shield section on the same page of the website. I mentioned this in the beginning of the video explaining the hearth: Distances to Combustibles With an Air-Cooled Heat Shield on the wall or pipe (2/3 reduction) 6” from back of stove 5.33” from sides of stove 18" from the top of the stove to the ceiling 6” from single-wall pipe We have an air cooled heat shield to the left which is a 2/3s reduction which would be 5 1/3" inches to the left. We have about 7" of space there. To the right we have 18" from the side of the stove to the short counter. Above the stove to ceiling is well over 36". The heat clearance around the double insulated pipe is only 2" so everything is good there. Our rear wall is aluminum, so that is not a combustible material.
@toml92845 күн бұрын
@ if your shield is an air shield that’s better. It sounded from the video that you were using half inch cement board with metal on top which would be an insulated shield not air shield. And on an air shield the sides should be open so it can draft. Also what is inside the back wall? If it’s only aluminum with a space and then more aluminum outside then that should be ok. But if it’s insulated, there isn’t enough clearance. Don’t forget the 18” applies to your single wall (black) pipe too not just the back of the stove. That would apply to the 2” clearance for double wall too. Usually a thimble is used. Looks great though! Good luck
@Meghanandmatt5 күн бұрын
the 1/2'" cement board is the hearth material underneath the aluminum. We consulted directly with tiny wood stove's team on our build and they OK'd everything so I have zero concerns about our installation.
