TinyCamp is a tiny house village in stunning in Sedona, Arizona. It’s not just a relaxing retreat, it’s intended as an educational demonstration project for sustainable development and tiny homes in Coconino County. Helping to make living tiny legally a reality in this part of AZ.
It features five houses in three different types: tiny houses on a foundation, and a tiny house on piers and a tiny house on wheels. All houses have been inspected and permitted. Four of these are student-built, by the Construction Careers Academy in San Antonio, TX.
TinyCamp is built on an existing vacant lot, showcasing how to best utilize small, difficult to build on lots. It was no small feat-building into a steep slope.
In addition to all the great research coming out of this village, it is also a stunning getaway with a goal of creating connection with yourself, your partner and nature. Oak Creek Canyon provides a magical backdrop.

This project epitomizes the ideal tiny home community. Are you considering allowing outsiders to join your venture & build a tiny home on this incredible site? I've been researching tiny homes, know this is exactly what I want but as with others, have run into the problems with zoning/planning boards. Currently living on the east coast but want to relocate to the west coast. Have been to Sedona & find it's perfect for so many reasons. They're all beautiful homes but the last home you showed - light filled contemporary is truly ideal. Thanks for sharing this!

I’ve been a fan, following the tiny home movement since it began. They are perfect for so many stages of life; college student, new grad entering job market, newlyweds, and seniors long past their need for a large home. Lofts make sense for the young, but seniors are left out of many designs. At 80 and severely vision impaired, there is no way I would even have a loft let alone try to crawl across one on my knees. There is great need for seniors to have more affordable housing that is comfortable and safe. Florida is sadly far behind the curve. I would sell my house and move to a tiny home community in a heartbeat if I could find one with space and a downstairs bedroom.

this is a great start for real community building with the very smart tiny home movement as traditional homes and mortgages skyrocket past new young homeowners, seniors and the low income singles and couples in America. You touch on many themes such as zoning laws which must be taken into consideration even in very remote areas. Great job. I would also encourage the view to check out such communities in your state. Here in Oregon we have a very smart answer to the homeless folks in Eugene< Oregon called "Emerald Village" the homeowner actually helps build them on a site approved by the city and they are also buying into a coop where they live. It is known that if you are building your home and paying into ownership pride and responsibility for the home and community becomes a win win every time. Also here on the coast in Waldport another tiny home community approved by the town has begun to flourish. Good luck and for pete sakes keep the cost DOWN, that is why tiny home movement began. If a price tag comes out to $100k or more why would anyone go tiny home. BTW how much are your units at the camp? Thx.

Excellent point. Tiny Homes with price tags which runs 3X the sqft of normal construction really defeats the whole purpose of building tiny.

In the Breathe Tiny House, you can also have an over the range/cooktop microwave that has lighting and venting, and vent it out, and it is mounted on the wall, so you still have counter space, and maybe a shelf for a toaster oven. I like the recycled steel walls; I take it you can put magnets on the wall, love the semi-round shower, and that bathroom is nice and spacious for a tiny house.

I'm going to Sedona next week to look for a place to rent for living. My long term goal is to form a sustainable community there. This will take lots of years of education, hard work, and dedication but I feel a calling to do this. Also getting petitions signed, and presenting new ideas to the city counsel board. I'm new, and I know nobody, but I'm ready to get involved, bring people and ideas together, and create living solutions.

It’s encouraging to see the movement taking such a strong push forward as more people are made aware of the options and benefits (and challenges) that are available. In my next phase of life (should it come) I’d like to live in a tiny house. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you for doing such a great job. (A baby boomer who lives in a 6,000 sq ft house lol)

I love what this man is doing by creating a small community that brings back nature and simplicity. the one thing that I didn't like about the two first houses was it there was not a bathroom sink. being that the kitchen was right there most people would think you could use that however that's cross-contamination in many ways that you don't want to see the results of. Also in the bigger house that was on a trailer, it was wasted space in the stairs that you could have used as drawers or as a closet.

This type of community makes so much sense everywhere! If CA doesn't get on board with tiny living we'll all be moving to AZ!! And SO appreciate the Dark Sky community!! Love the Flow unit! My sister has a 2nd home that's a tiny on the Russian River, CA. Can you tell me where you found the big comfy chair? Great addition! You've thought of so much, denim insulation and indoor/outdoor furniture ... great planning for living tiny. Thank you for explaining your thinking about tiny house placement in terms of what would be appropriate for privacy, etc. I wish more planners took these things into consideration.

I lived in a "mother's-in-law quarters" in downtown Albuquerque. Was built the same time as the main house, probably sometime in the 40s. I had a full bath that had been remodeled right before I moved in. Kitchen had a full stove and fridge, not much cabinet space. A half wall separated the kitchen and living area. I fit in a love seat and a queen bed. I had a cat & large dog, lots of yard. Dang I miss my "la Caja"

It's GREAT if you have the funds and want to build in the fashion that this host Darin ascribes to when he said "... Everything you touch has to be high quality and so this is you know granite counter tops and high end hardware and fixtures. Anything you touch that's tactile has to be high quality or your experience in a small space is diminished." However I want to point out that this is only true if you believe it is true. If you are joyful living in a tiny home made from a silo with paper bags and polyurethane for your custom flooring, mismatched silverware bent to be your cupboard pulls, horse trailer windows, with concrete countertops and sink, and a hole in the middle of floor covered with a custom floor door/latch with a drop ladder for your 'drop-in' reading/sleeping lair....then that is your truth. Tiny living can be as inexpensive or expensive as you are comfortable with-without diminishing any of your space.
@darindinsmore6492
@darindinsmore6492 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I don't disagree. But the point was that going small is often expensive as the materials are not standard sizes (such as appliances) . I do think we can learn from boat design, but also that is expensive or at least needs attention to detail. I agree with you that you can make artful living out of many affordable materials - but it needs to be thoughtful. Thanks for your comment.

I really admire this plan. The tiny houses and the site are beautiful. Oak Creek Canyon reminds me of the canyon I used to tromp around in. I live in Monterey County, CA, where it's impossible to buy a house for under $500k. Rents are at least $1800 a month for a studio! I have a feeling that Sedona is probably about the same. Is this tiny house village going to be used for short term rentals, or for the working people that Sedona hires to maintain their tourist shops? What has happened to our area is that people have grabbed up houses, rent them out for short term vacation visitors, which has depleted the housing market for local workers. This idea is wonderful, but only as a means to solve a housing problem, not to house the tourist trade. This is my very biased opinion, as I have watched beautiful areas of the Central Coast be destroyed by over zealous tourists that care nothing for the damage they do.

I'm 110% in favor of the Tiny House Movement and wish American Mortgage Lenders and State Housing/Zoning Offices would wrap their little minds around the fact that not every human being desires to live in a big sprawling mansion. Also, not everyone can afford NOR WANTS TO EVEN OWN a big home or a big mortgage. Many people are just average income earning individuals, but still deserve the opportunity to own their own property too. There's also many homeless persons who have been outpriced in many cities and cannot afford a house or an apartment. There's a big problem in the States with forcing people to live the way they want you to live. I'm also not a fan of the rich and powerful taking over the Tiny House Movement and turning a liveable need for low to modest income earners into a luxury alternate living space in addition to their traditional sized home.

Veronica Stevenson .... 🤗 perhaps Tiny Dwellers need to make more political noise 🤔. As for the rich, I do agree. It is one more thing they can laugh about at dinner parties .... their quaint tiny home(s) .... you must come visit us .... it is such a kick 🤑🥳. Meanwhile the purpose behind living tiny has is becoming vogue and starting to be out priced as well. Next step, Van living, and as you mentioned, insurance companies instead of working with a movement, setting requirements and standards so as to get affordable insurance, simply refuse to think outside the “box” so to speak.

@@brendaswann7292 -- I'd much prefer to living in a yurt to some POS "tiny house" with the walls closing in on ya'. All you tiny house aficionados will soon tire of such accommodations when you realize you really cannot entertain in a 2X4, nor can you even think about raising a family in one of these contraptions. Your pets would get claustrophobia, just as you will in a short period of time. This tiny home gambit is purely globalistically inspired nonsense, unless you're putting one up for a guest house, but I'd think twice before asking my guest to sleep in one of those. No really. And I am not a snob, just a realist. I'd choose to live in a freakin' SHACK before I'd move into something that small.

Beautiful project- thanks for sharing :) nice to know about! Would be nice if working people could afford (renewal and rebirth ;)) vacations!! Everybody should but that's not the world we live in :( I clean houses and vacation rentals here in Sedona and Cottonwood Arizona- it's a beautiful place to live and there's lots of tourists and lots of retired people who have lots of money! But no decent affordable housing! Love the idea of small houses and dream to accomplish that! Access to land and/or space to live and not be on top of others would be nice too! 🙏🌞 thanks for the inspiration

My husband and I are retired. We worked for other people and now... No savings, small monthly check. We could never vacation but if anything ever happens to our house, I would love to go tiny. If we ever gets way I would be thrilled to visit your tiny village.

Beautiful builds. Sorry, but your philosophy about dark woods being masculine and natural light being feminine is utterly ridiculous. Both are equally masculine and feminine. My wife LOVES the rich, dark wood doors, trim, beams, stairways, and built-ins of the early 1900s homes. Not me, I like white trim around the windows and doors. Anyways, good, high quality work, a pleasure to view and to gain ideas from. Thanks for sharing.

not so interested in your tiny home design, but i like your concept and ideas about how to stay within regulations in your state , in this one,, but the legation's and the boundary and restrictions seems in the united states are dependent on the state laws where you live... what i am worried about now is its still a grey area in most states , when the federal government realizes how to stop or deter people for living a life they cant tax they will start to as they do , so every tiny house built after 2020 will incurs a state tax or further legislation's to try to prevent the movement from roller coasting it just a matter of time no matter what you do on the ground ...

I would give my eye teeth to have a permanent home in a community like Tiny Camp. Such a shame that you have to jump through so many hoops to build a home that benefits the environment and the soul. 😎✌🏻🤙🏻🤘🏻😎

My thumbs down would of Been the way he has been sexist describing the tiny homes. Dark and light is liked by both sexes. So to describe as masculine feminine has put me off this a bit. Otherwise very nice houses.

There are a ton of lots that are too steep to build anything large and heavy on, but tiny house villages are small and light. It's really a brilliant idea when you think about it!
