well thought out! it is very nice to see good design rather than simply having an idea of "oh i want a tiny home" and making compromises and poor design choices! the smaller the space, the more critical the design details are - things like the storage in the unused corner of the kitchen counter for the work luggage, the conscious decision to go to 15' width because it allowed full-size appliances even though when moving, it will need the extra logistics that come with that width. cheers!

Just found you again today, so posted the link at my twitter. Still don't know where else I posted, but will try to add a link here when I ever find those spaces again. As a permanent home option, the extra size is fantastic. I assume ther is no way to travel roads if it's wider than the 15 ft. Any more info on these issues???

I think this house is a little bit of a letdown. It seems like a trailer park with a dash of eccentric architecture. I'm curious what the land rent is there. Also, the return on investment will probably bite them in the butt down the line. They paid $75,000 for the house that will not go up in value; you can get a condo in Durango for 150,000-$200,000 that will go up in value over time and can be financed conventionally. Different strokes for different folks… I hope they enjoy their little nest and that it brings them years of happiness. It also looks pretty well constructed and will stand the test of time.

I love this and these small homes. Just one question in America you have trailer parks and people have been living in trailer parks and trailer homes for many years I understand from having travelled to the USA that this was always considered the homes for lower socio-economic groups and generally the society looked down upon these people. Now the middle classes can’t afford to buy homes they renamed trailer parks as ‘tiny homes”. Do they still differentiate between their bespoke tiny homes and the more standard trailer homes and trailer parks?. I don’t really mind what you call them it’s just I wanted to understand this rebranding of an idea that has been in existence for many years?

This is basically just a manufactured home park but on a smaller scale. People have been living like this for decades. with the dimensions of their build, they really need a double lot to create a buffer between the neighbors. All of the snow is going to bury the yard on one side and make it impossible to walk between the two buildings on the other side. So, that's a major issue (however uncommon) that should be built into the leasing requirements of that community.

I love this house and it really shows how tiny homes are doable. But I agree the cramped parking lot ruins the experience. I dont even like how the "large" size overwhelms the other units. But hopefully this is a stepping stone to their own land or a more suitable tiny home village. I suppose we first need to prove to land developers that there is a demand for this kind of living. It really is no different than a well planned trailer park except that a community of tiny homes contain custom built and self built very attractive units. We need state and local laws to respond accordingly.

Great couple and well designed home. Very fortunate that her father is in construction as this house would cost more than twice that much if built by a tiny home builder. I agree with other comments about how close the houses are leaving zero room for privacy. With kids in the future, this lot will not provide any space for them around the outside of the home. Escalante Village is full and expensive. They do provide snow removal but I doubt that means in between each home. Regardless, this is an excellent home and constructed on a budget under $100k is remarkable.

Beautiful well designed small mobile house but not tiny enough to be appropriate for such a small lot. In the previous video, I thought the big looming building in the middle (this house) must be a community office and club house. (Bet you that people are wandering up all the time asking if any rental lots are coming available.) It is great, but would be greater in a different location. Not really the homeowners fault - the community owner should have made the lots bigger and/or put stricter limits on the size of tiny homes allowed. There are serious safety concerns putting structures too close to each other. The wife's dad should know that - in fact that maybe why he went with fireproof materials for siding and roof, but still . . .

The idea of the mini house/tiny homes was to get out from under mortgages tans to gain more freedom, I don’t see that anymore. I see the heavy burdens that a regular home has. I can’t imagine raising a family in a closet, the lack of breathing room has got to weigh heavily after awhile, no personal room. The fact that 15 foot wide is not practical when it comes time to “move”. I drove tractor trailer, I had to obtain permits for either, over height,width, length and often times overweight! All of which can be quite expensive. I could go on and on but, I won’t, I will say that to live in these “communities” is not some thing that I personally have a desire to do. I thought the whole point of the tiny house movement was for people to be able to afford a home with little to no debt after realizing that the American Dream was really a nightmare. Obviously, people like this couple have financed their tiny home. If you're going to get a mortgage, why not just buy a stick-built house like most people? Tiny home living was a great idea for lower income people who couldn't afford mortgages but wanted someplace decent to live. But, as usual, people with money (or access to money) just HAVE to be a part of everything, even to the detriment of the people that tiny home living was intended for (I'm sure prices of tiny home builders have risen considerably due to people like this). It's sickening.

@@floralupstart836 wow, I don't know the exact conversion but I'm guessing that'd be around $220,000 usd. That could actually be close to what it is around me as well. It just seems like so much! I know we bought our small little 1955 cape cod home in 2013 for around $129,000, which was typical for the area at that time, but now houses in our neighborhood are selling for close to $200k. It's unreal. I know you must be thrilled about your husband and daughter building her a tiny home. What a great experience for the 2 of them to do together. I think even with my 2 kids and husband, I could do the tiny home thing as long as I have enough closet and cabinet space so that I don't have clutter. I could do without many things that we have now for sure. I dont mind our small home, but unfortunately back in the 50s, they didn't build these cape cods with hardly any closets, and the few that here are don't have much space in them. The kitchen was redone right before we bought it and they put in lots of very big cabinets, so the kitchen is fine. 😊 Best of luck on your daughter's tiny home. I hope she has many happy years in it when it's complete! 💜

I live in the Toronto area.. single family homes (say, 1,400 sq ft) with a very small yard cost $1.5 million with many offers on each.

But all those tiny homes are right on top of each other. Yuck. Like a small trailer park. Why bother with a tiny house then?

Love your house but not the village. Everything is so lose. You dont have private space.

I love tiny homes except for one thing. I could not live needing to bend over to get around in any part of the home. Is it possible to build one with. Regular height upstairs loft area? Otherwise I love your home.

This one is really good. The size of the kitchen is great as well. I like the front deck as well.

I loved that your wrote your "intentions" in the subfloor. We had our church family come and write scriptures in the studs behind the sheetrock in every room of the house. What a blessing!

Why put them so close together….a little land would be so much more attractive.

Lots of lovely tiny houses, but who thought it was a good idea to put them in a car park? They look so nice individually but they need a little bit of landscaping around them to give them context. As it is it looks like an housing estate for poor Dwarves. Shame cos they're beautiful. I guess the upside is community?

I love the home they’ve built. They have the idea of building their family but can you imagine that place as a “crash pad”?

No way! I love your dad. He said he wanted to build your house!! If my dad said that, it would end up looking like a nuclear silo - he was in the Air Force and after flying B-52s for many years, he played war games, creating nuclear war plans for the Air Force at Strategic Air Command, Barksdale, AFB, so he wouldn't be much help there... actually he could help me build a house - he is really smart, creative, and talented im many things (but he isn't a contractor)... at least he could have helped years ago, he is 92 now.

Now this tiny house is more doable! Nice, BIG porches, 380 square feet is the size of many studio apartments. This place doens't seem so much like a gentrified lawn shed. I could never live in Durango, though. only 20 inches of rain a year, and 64 inches of snow. No thank you!!

I honestly don’t know why these villages don’t have more property since they have such a small footprint as it is. All the neighbors would be able to be more productive growing their own food while having more privacy. Sure you can have community gardens but then you still have privacy issues. W/ more land, you can have it all, including a community garden if properly designed. Is the lady of the house Wayne Dyer’s Daughter?? I think she is based on that saying on the sub flooring that I love... When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at, change. ~Wayne Dyer/Dad How cool? I do love this tiny house design. Very functional, and I am addicted to utility, form and function in design. Excellent job!👍

Sorry but your bath sucks, the stairs sucks and 300 plus square foot and a limited head room in the bed? I dont know about that. Than again your kitchen is amazing and the balcony too! But 75K for this? I will NOT pay for limited bed and stairs and NOT a shower with a door? Dont think so. Sorry!

Young couple? I thought they'd be early twenties make sensible decisions but these 2 appear to be pushing 40 going through a mid-life crisis. Also, $75k? Holy crap!

This is very nice but I truly do NOT understand why u all think that this is a cheap way to have a home...and it's itsy bitsy!!! $75,000 is a lot of money...then the home isn't very large...much less when u have children....and no land?? The very nicest thing about this build is working with ur dad....that's the treasure in itself!

I had seen a couple days ago, 500.00/mo/no vacancy along w/park models 399sf as options, I thought this is that. Hearing of roof/snow I'd guess we see where it goes. Great. A skyscraper.🙄
@kemicecormier56872 жыл бұрын
I have an aunt that’s 6 ft. Tall and she says she’s 5’12”. LOL. Also, you talked about your roof style to allow the snow to fall off easier. Does that mean it will fall into the neighbor’s yard? I notice you don’t have much space in between your homes.

$75k?? That’s wayyy too much mortgage for me. The idea behind tiny homes used to be living debt free from those ridiculous house payments and the even worse interest tacked on to them. Now we’re up to Mini McMansions!

Can you guys build me one please. I'm on the North Coast of California on a large ranch land three miles to the ocean on top of a mountain with a paved road to the property. I can afford to pay you. I just need some place for my sister to live on my ranch. P.S. I would let you park on a large ranch land 1235 feet in elevation next to the Pacific Ocean with very few neighbors being everyone lives on large lands. Hundreds if not thousands of acres. PSS. Bring your mom and dad.

If all tiny house villages are just more asphalt jungles, this is never going to get off the ground. Arguably not being able to hear what your kids are up to is a bad thing. It’s when they’re particularly quiet and self entertaining that she needs to watch most LOL. Now she’s going to have to have to listen to baby monitors the whole time lol... so much for quiet, eh? Just get a cat 🐈

I love your show,! This may be way off-base, but are you aware of malignant narcissism? IT seems especially creative women can attract what seem like a perfect man, until they're fully committed and discover it was an act. Childhood issues with mother are usually the catalyst. So true that the first thing to learn in a new relationship is how a man truly feels about his mother.

It's a beautiful house and they look like a wonderful loving couple. Now, it doesn't look different from a mobile home park. They're not rent free. I'm sure they're paying for the space
@Garrettw082 жыл бұрын
so.... an apartment but way overpriced just worse in every way? I'd get if they put it remotely or what not, but they're on top of neighbors anyways? why not an apartment? lmao
@vickym92212 жыл бұрын
It's a nice house but I don't think it's going to be enough space for kids. Just think about all the toys they'd have with just one child. Not enough storage or room for everyone to breathe and have their own space. Imagine teenagers in there!

Lovely home, awful lot. Cramped. Maybe they'll buy some land to put their home on. Just not a fan of being able to reach out and touch the neighbor's house.
