I love it all! That sweet, sweet dog sleeping in the sun! Your kids are fantastic! I love that you can start and stop when you want to. You don’t punch a clock and you can quit when you’re ready. And you have the freedom to stop one project and work on another if you want/need to! Bliss! I envy your lifestyle, but I do not envy the hard work! Love you guys!

The one thing I will advise you to do when it comes to doors is make them wider than you think you need. My parents were building a house what doesn't seem like 30 years ago, but my how time creeps up on you. My mom and I both worked in health care at the time (she is now retired and I have another 20+ years to go until I retire) made sure the doors were wide enough to get a wheelchair and a walker through. I designed her master bathroom and told her what she needed to do to make sure no changes would need to be made to the house when they got "older". My mom was actually younger than I am right now when she built her house. I had a home care client at the time I had to shower and they had this "bench" built into their shower. I told my mom about this, roughly drew it out on a piece of paper and she incorporated the same thing into their house. You can use this bench for shampoo and soaps also sit on this bench which is what my dad did when he had his knees replaced. There's stuff you don't think about until the time comes and it will come faster than you think. I was thinking about hyperadobe until I saw you all doing this and if I build something like this, it'll kill me. I am going to go with straw bale and just like hyperadobe, you have to interlock, otherwise the walls are not sturdy.

Using sign language for distance communication is always helpful! I once toured the Washington Post printing department; at the time, because of the loud machinery, nearly everyone hired was deaf, and if they weren't when they started, they were when they left! Everyone working there knew ASL, and used it to communicate over long distances or short. It got me into BSL (British, Glaswegian dialect) translation!

We love the progress, I was recently in the hospital for a back injury and recruited most of the staff that I came into contact with. Everyone loves your channel!! As a side note, we think ya'll missed a golden moment. The caca de casa should have been the round adobe and visa versa, look at the shape and kinda the color , lol. One of the nurses pointed that out and we all had a little giggle.Your family is truly a blessing, keep up the good work! Love from West Texas!

I have been following you guys for several great seasons! Thanks! Maybe it could help you in the future, when you add glass bottles, to have both sides of the bottle in a plastic bag. Both sides will get 'dirty' only after the last coating. You just cut the plastic round and the glass will be very clear and clean. What do you think, if this will work? Please let us know.

length between buttress is probably different for interior walls than for exterior walls.... especially considering your interior walls are just as thick as the exterior walls, something else that is atypical. Normally interior walls are thinner.... at least for cob walls with no bags. Bags kinda dictate wall thickness. Anyway, it's looking good.
@TinyShinyHome
@TinyShinyHome 8 ай бұрын
Not really, if it's straight and longer than 12' or so it needs a buttress. Round walls obviously don't because of the shape pushing in on itself.

12:10 MAKATON signs are similar to the country's sign language but designed for easier use... and the syntax ( word order) is the same as the spoken language. To be used with speech. But in some circumstances such as a noisy area or physical distance the signs still do their job!

😄😊 These messures-problems in the english-speaking countries...! It realy is a hard thing to follow ("hów big/long/thick is this wall?") for someone like me thinking in a decimale mesure-system. To be honoust... I'm glad with millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers,... and that I don't have to deal with inches, feet (thumbs?), miles, ... One question : do you know already how you'll transport the earth-ciment mix over the higher walls? Maybe a double-doorway could be a solution... Very nice to see how you deal with little, ennoying, practical problems! I love it! ♥️👍

I just found out I wrote too quick (before the end of the video 😄). Here another possibility: you move 1 betonmixer in the inside of the construction with a huge pile of earth-mixe and you work from thát point out on the inner walls. Something else... instead of WALKING the length of the bags, use marked ropes for the most used lengths. Just an idea...

Ashley, suggest some type of hook or hanger (maybe one of those tall planter hangers) near the mixers. Hang the hose up each time you use it. Dropping the nozzle on the ground is what is causing it to leak. I went through a few nozzles before I realized I needed to stop throwing them on the driveway/patio/garage floor. 😍🇨🇦

Could you possibly stop a few feet before the overlaps & work on the inner first. Then come back & do the overlaps, adding those nailer board at the joins. Each time you stop before the overlap at a different point, like brick layering 🤔 Like a foot difference, back & forth on each inner row. Then do the outer circle & those overlaps would kinda be like doing buttresses. Eeek, I can see it in my mind, reality of course could be a whole different story.

Dramm nozzles seem to work the best for us, but even those leak after a short period of time. We put a good quality shutoff between the hose end and nozzle. We have no leaks when we shut off there. At first it seems a little awkward, but muscle memory kicks in after a short time and now we don’t even realize we’re turning it on and off at the shutoff.

Still watching you all! I assume you're referring to hose nozzles when you asked. Our hard western water is really hard on plumbing. Check out Dramm. You order the parts ala carte: handle, wand, head. You can replace parts as they fail. I have a Dramm twisty head, which ends up soaking in vinegar-water a couple times a season, on a short wand. I also use a full flow head on a long wand with a shut-off valve attached. High pressure nozzles are available too. A little plumbers tape where the parts connect to the wand and Bob's your uncle! Same heads and wands after seven years--no leaking. Worth every penny.

Enjoyed this episode! Glad you are back to working on your house! Are the kids bashful or just camera shy? Would love to see them more involved in the videos.

I have lived in Europe for so long that I can't even think in feet anymore. I had to guesstimate your "16 feet" into meters to even get a feel for what you were saying. Fifty years ago, when I was in elementary school in the US, the US was "going to change to the metric system within 10 years". Never listen to a politician!

I suggest what you do is you get you. The longest board you can bring home, which is probably a 20 footer. Take that board and mark it off in foot. Then you light your bags up on it. And then you've got you know. How many of your feet you wantna? Measure off and you cut it off. Then if you need more than 20 foot, you mark your bag with a marker, pull it down to the end and then go to where you need. Again, if you need another 20 foot you mark that 2040 foot, then you go home and I'm in new you. It'll be the easiest way to do it. And it's trying to order about each person's foot

You still have to measure the wall you'll be cutting the bag to. A board isn't going to change how that works, especially for a circular wall.

It’s so good to see the walls emerge from the ground. It gives us a clearer understanding of the design and a huge appreciation for such hard work! You’re right about multiple projects and makes the channel more interesting. 😍🇨🇦
