Here is just a quick video showing you guys what you should do after fishing in saltwater. Saltwater corrodes metal, so when you are finished you need to give your rods (especially your guides), reels and lures a good soak and rinse with water, then let them air dry. This will greatly improve the longevity of your tackle and gear.
Tips up, tight lines and have fun fishing!

I now reccomend using a mist setting on your reels. The gentile pressure is less harmful to the reel. Dozens of people have already tried to make this correction, so please be unique and only comment if you can add something beneficial to this video 😉

Use the mist setting to rinse, lock down ur drag also. High pressure spray will push the salt into the internals and cause more damage then not rinsing at all.

floridaBMW Yeah, I lock my drags. That spray setting on that nozzle isn't as strong as it looks. I'm also spraying from a height of 4-5 feet. I actually got some stuff in a bottle to spray on my gear to neutralize the saltwater

Tip #1, if there is grass or something soft around, lay your gear on that rather than cement. Scratchy scratchy.

@@TheTroutHammer Grass and dirt can then get into the reel, I found a blade of grass up under the spool the next time I went fishing so I try not to go on the grass or dirt any longer

I am really glad you brought this to attention. I am on the Texas gulf coast area and I purchased my reels to be both saltwater and fresh water durable. But..... to maintain the equipment's lifespan, they still need to go through a good wash down. I have seen videos where anglers wash their baits in soapy water. Thanks for sharing.

Trout hammer, you don’t have to rinse the reel with mist mode. These people telling you the tips probably never fished a day in their life. No damage will be done to the reel.

Good tip that all Saltwater fisherman should use. I use the light spray on the reels and the jet on the rod. I clean them in the rod holder and spray up and down
@jackmangham1153

WRONG. Don’t ever do this with that water power all you are doing in pushing the salt into tiny crevices in the reel which will screw it up over time. Rods are okay but never do this to a reel

@@TheTroutHammer you shouldn't have disabled the comments. You tube doesn't distinguish between positive or negative comments but just comments and this would have increased your rating on you tube. more comments are good whether positive or negative.

You know that you are driving saltwater and sand inside the reel so start wiping your reel down with a wet washcloth while holding them up right making sure the reel spool is pointing up and a few shots of Lemon Pledge and another wipe down with a dry cloth. ~~ Tight lines
@TheTroutHammer
@TheTroutHammer 4 жыл бұрын
Never thought about wiping them down first

TroutHammer well exactly what I mean is a wet cloth or small towel soaking wet with warm water pressed against the spool while hold the spool straight up not allowing any water down into the spool You don’t want Water down inside the spool even with the cap on and drag tight it can seep into it so pressing the wet towel while turning the reel spool cap up will wash away salt and sand this way of doing it was taught to me by a charter boat captain that does this daily and the lemon pledge keeps a shine on them. God bless

Mist setting is key...Just a tip for making salt reels resist saltwater. Once you are done cleaning your reel, let it dry completely. Spray a small amount of Pledge (yea the furniture polish) on a rag and wipe down the outside of the reel. It will not damage any type of line and it puts a very this layer of wax that will cause salt spray to bead off it will only last a trip or two. I do this after every trip.

Two ideas: flip your rods over and hit the other side of the reels (you can even stand them up against the garage), and Buy a plastic basket at the 99 Cents store to put all your lures in before you hose them off. Thank you for your videos.

Okumas are good. I personally prefer the ocean master series that bass pro sells. I paid $140.00 for a 12 ft. casting rod and its made with the same components you find in $300.00 and up rods!! Depends on your budget really

As far as I know that should be okay. I use my bass reels sometimes fishing for rockfish from the bank, and those are $100 reels that have worked perfectly for years, as long as they're taken care of

I drop a few drops of liquid soap in a tall 7gallon bucket, stand my rods in them, fill the bucket with the soapy water, spray the guides while they are in the bucket, soak for half and hour, rinse, I then dry with a old cotton t-shirt. I oil my reels, handles, spools , gears about every 3-4 trips. TIP do not forget your rod guides
