My 5th grade teacher's mom actually paints rocks and I remember being super amazed by them. I've always wanted to paint(in general) after seeing those.

I used to paint rocks about 15 yrs ago , just decided as my movement is sort of limited atm while waiting for a hip replacement ( yuk ) I'd take it up again , i'm just hoping i've still got it LOL as trompe l'oeil is my real love and wall murals ~ painted all my life but some of the rocks I see online ( you tube ) are absolutely brilliant just hope I can sharpen up my not so great skills again , thanks for the video ( I sub'd ) have a nice day regards Sydney , Australia.

This looks really fun! I've painted a couple rocks, but I was a lot younger, so I think I'll give it a shot again. Also, I'm really struggling with cast shadows, could you do a tutorial on working out where they would be and such? Lovely video & art as always!

Can you seal the rock in resin so it is nice and shiny? Also if one does a rock using colored pencils or watercolor, does it need any different sealant?

How do you seal a rock you want to place outside?
@Britneybuu7 жыл бұрын
For anyone wanting to do this you can use mod podge to seal it, but be aware I did this and it made my colors look a bit dull. It's an easy and accessible option though.
@jamiefoley37186 жыл бұрын
Do not use mod podge it your rocks will be outdoors!

What is the best way to seal the Rock, once it has been painted. I have a friend who is struggling and I am trying to find a way to help her make money and I thought this would be a great thing for her to sell rock paintings. Can she pain Rocks out of home-made paint. Both her and her husband lost their jobs.
@christineschmidt10257 жыл бұрын
What sealant do you use? I tried Mod Podge which worked but it remains sticky. So I used Krylon Low Odor Clear Finish, but it was matte-I like shiny. The only thing is, that is considered toxic, not non-toxic.
@laylar92407 жыл бұрын
Christine Schmidt one tip for mod podge (I use it) is to use very very thin coats. I hope this helps you! Have a great day!
@hansendesigns7 жыл бұрын
Mod podge is basically thick elmers glue. It is not a sealant for something that might be exposed to any amout of moisture, forget surviving the outdoors. :) so just go to home depot/hardware store and get a good spray sealer, ask the attendant if you are not sure of what you want. Something meant to survive the outdoors :)
@mylamatthews76987 жыл бұрын
DecoArt has a sealant and if you choose to use sharpie or gel pens(which works great) , the DecoArt sealant will not smudge it at all . totally recommend it

The rock that would crack is called a mud rock. It's just compressed mud. Sometimes there's fossils inside them.

And if you're really lacking rocks in your natural surroundings (or are too lazy to look for them), you can find small bags of them at Dollar Tree, or a craft store such as Michael's.

I assume you are using acrylic paints. I follow a rock group and some were trying to use melted crayons etc.
