TIP & TRICKS: OILING A MERKEL GUNSTOCK #asmr
VEIWERS REQUESTED CONTENT: AMSR GUN CONTENT
The Devongunsmith Diaries concept was conceived by me during lock down, and the premise was to be able to perform work without a fully set up gunsmiths workshop, but rather, using just the Cottage Kitchen Table, a few hand tools, some cordless tools, a table vice, and other small DIY tools.
While the channel is not specifically intended to be a how to guide, it is mainly for entertainment.
While in the UK gunsmithing must be performed by the Licenced Gun Trade, KZbin is without borders, and if the channel is useful to someone as either entertainment, or indeed helps you to decide if a repair might be possible, then I have been a help to you.
As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission from qualifying purchases, this helps to support the Devongunsmith Channel, The following are products I use regularly.

I have tried putting a bit of beeswax in with the Tru Oil adds something to it, only a bit, but it seems to create a lustre in addition to the Tru oil finish.

Yes, or a London wax which has beeswax, linseed and carnauba wax in it 👍

@@devongunsmith4698 I also warmed up some boiled linseed oil with alkanes root in it; that worked nicely too. We did in in our slow cooker.

Alkanet root will infuse in cold boiled linseed just as easily. 👍

How are you filling the grain? Did you go over the action with the oil?

This was more a maintenance of an existing polished stock rather than from scratch job.. I have a few videos coming that will cover your question. And no, I didn’t oil action. Ideally gun oil for action.

Can you do this on a lacquer finish?
@devongunsmith4698
@devongunsmith4698 6 ай бұрын
It depends what the lacquer is based upon. If it’s shellac lacquer, then yes. There is little point oiling a polyurethane finish.

Would you use the same method for a "London" finish?

London finish uses other materials. This wasn’t a from scratch polishing job.
