Yaw Tricks Video: goo.gl/TDccuG
I just realized that I presented the last move incorrectly. You actually have to move the roll stick to the opposite side first and then follow with the yaw stick sorry about that. I will have an update video later about this.

Don't forget to loosen up your springs. It might be a big transition for people coming from the stiff factory setting but you will get used to it quickly and you won't feel those notches when you transition the sticks.

It's my second day with a simulator and some of the things said in this video I got them on my own by just trial and error, I'm still far from having full trajectory control but there are some things I noticed that I have to work on and focus on and they're not easy to learn: 1) gravity is SLOW; messing up with the throttle will really piss you off, you're doing a turn and compensating for the higher pitch because you're learning to tighten the curve and then be right off to skating again, and there you go not lowering the throttle soon enough and shooting up in the air as soon as you adjust your pitch, and it'll feel like forever when you're falling, you can take the chance and practice diving, but it still it feels awful when you're trying to fly level to the ground and you mess up; 2) losing control during turns; you might want to gradually tighten the turn but you either yaw too little or too much, from what I understand yaw never changes the direction of your movement, it just change the way you're pointing and thus your point of reference for the turn, so I turn with roll and pich(like with a plane) and correct with you, point is when you tighten a curve if you yaw too little you roll into the curve and you start moving somewhere you're not looking and have to balance that, or when you yaw too much you roll out of the curve, and that's even worse; 3)sometimes you just can't get the trajectory you want; small corrections are really hard to make, yeah you can get spin around a pole like you want, or pass through a gate, but I'm always risking collision and never doing it fully convinced, I don't crash as much as I think I'm going to but in order to focus on my trajectory I have to turn off my "DON'T CRASH" flying mode in my head, if that makes sense, and it just feels awful to have to feel like you're flying risky when you're making corrections to pass through a gate, and again relating to the first point, falling is so slow, if you punch the throttle too much you can forget about passing through, you'll just pass over it; 4)stop and reverse is really hard; there's this point in the track I'm practicing where I have to pass through a high gate and then fall and turn back and pass under it, whenever I try to reverse I found myself going in the wrong direction and it's pretty much impossible to correct since the second point to pass through is so close, out of the little four hours I got, I managed to try it about 50 times and only got it right 2 out of luck. ***)DON'T USE CAMERA ANGLE COMPENSATION, I don't even know if you could program it into your flight controller but even if you could you shouldn't, I tried it once, it made things "easier" but I feel more in control without it, for the simple reason that if I yaw I don't change direction, at first it might feel practical to do trajectory correction with pure yaw but doing turns feels just wrong.

There is brain science that shows that *small* changes are conducive to learning. I think this challenges your advice to stick with the same quad/rates/everything. I am sure, however, that your advice stands if you mean to advise against drastic changes, or if someone is a day-1-beginner. My guess is that "small changes" might mean something like keeping the same rates on three quads and flying them all. If you think about it, we *do* fly "different quads" from the beginning of the battery to the end since we fly with 20% less voltage. Keep up the good work Bab! I always look forward to you, Bardwell, and UAVFutures stuff :)
@Kabab

Matt Jones yeah you can't really keep it always the same. depending on the weather the gyro responds differently too. I really just mean don't go changing your rates and building a new quad too quickly.

Nice tips, I'll have to try some of these. The first one will be tough for me though as I go back and forth from simulator to quad. Unfortunately I don't get much time for "real" flying during a typical week, so I'm still using the simulator for practice. I definitely notice what you're talking about though, typically it takes half a flight or so to adjust to the difference in feel.

I think this and the 5051 racekraft clone are the only good props they have made. I think having CHEAP props makes you fly better, since props are what you break most often. When your not worried about breaking your props, you dare try going faster, doing new tricks, hitting smaller gaps and so on.

TeeSCee I use the 5048 v1 racerstar, I know several other people who do. £3.50 for 20 pairs and they're well balanced and fly well. Certainly not the best in the world, but more than good enough to practice with, and so cheap I'm not tempted to try and bend them back 20 times.

Yaw first for smooth camera makes a lot of sense, especially for those great freestyle videos. I am curious about the effect it has on speed through the corners. Is it faster when racing to yaw and roll at the same time? My instinct says that when going very fast that almost no yaw is needed to corner, but this would assume that camera angle matches pitch in a racing situation.
@Kabab
@Kabab 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah with light powerful quads, they're flying at almost 90deg so minimal yaw is needed.

wow, as a beginner i really don't know what to learn anymore...when i started training in velocidrone i had set my camera angle mix at 30 thinking that was the actual camera angle , then i've found the actual setting where to change the quad camera angle but forgot about the camera mix angle and i've trained for about 8 h flying a drone with airplane like controls. then i get myself into a multiplayer room and watch some pro's flying and look at they'r stick movements and i'm like WTF!!! how can you turn that tight and fast with no yaw input and someone explains to me about the high camera angle and how the sticks change roles after 45 degree's , so i go back and change my camera angle to 45 and train for another 10 h trying to fly that , which is now effectively 15 degree's camera angle and still frustrated as to why i can't turn that tight and my yaw and rol are now so bad.. then i got lucky and found a vidoe of Joshua Bardwell explaining the camera mix angle setting for Betaflight and i've realized that i might have set that wrong in velocidrone . so basically i had to start learning to fly a drone as a drone from scratch again and now i had to undo the skills i picked up in the first 18 h or so and now to get to this video and learn that there are great drone pilots that try to fly a drone like a plane :)) so my take from this is , if you want to do racing you learn the no "camera mix angle" but for free style i think is better to try and switch slowly into 45 cam angle and 45 cam mix angle and have it fly like a plane ,the tight turns would be much harder to do now since you gotta use both sticks , but the wide slow turns will be a breeze

There's only one controller that's better and it JUST came out. The radio master Boxer. It's not even good out of the box. You need to do a little mod on the gimbals to get the gimbals to be actually full size. All these radios that came after the X9D and X7 claim full size gimbals but not a single one is. It's extremely important to ease of control to have actual full size gimbals and I'm so confused why they keep making small ones. The Boxer with the small mod is definitely better than the X9D and X7 today. I'd highly advise it. I'm gonna be making a video about it in the somewhat near future. Specifically about the mods and importance of full range gimbals.
