Awesome video, Luke...thank you for the guidance. My '04 Crew Cab SIlverado started acting up after a new Jasper crate engine was swapped in. It would lurch fwd without my foot on the gas. Mechanic finally started saying my radio had messed up my computer. But it was doing it when I WASN'T keying the mic. Swapped in a used ECM and tuned it for my VIN and the Class 1 cam in the crate engine. All good so far. Now my truck has approx 600k miles on it and I have no idea if that ECM was the original. But I thank you tremendously for the Amidon part number. I'll be ordering some of those babies to go on my ECM harness. Another issue I have is after installing my Mechman 400amp alt...after about 0.8mile the DIC will show Service Brake Booster. Tony at Mechman says they have seen that issue and mostly on Z71 trucks...which mine is. I just push the trip reset button and clear the DIC and then it doesn't come back on until I restart the truck and go about 0.8mi down the road. My radio is RCI Ranger 2970N4 and I had just dual batteries and then added the Mechman 400amp alt. Radio is now behaving like it should since I'm feeding it properly and my headlights don't dim with a mic key. Again thanks for the tips and tricks! 73 from 2WR080 Virginia

Great video! I watched it pole-to-pole, and I rarely do that on KZbin! :-). Two things….I’ve heard that some vehicle manufactures are invalidating warranties if you install any kind of two-way radio. I don’t know this for myself. I’ve not had that problem, so it is all hearsay. Second, the two words you were going to say about safety ground vs rf ground is: surface area. RF flows on the surface of a wire. Not in the center of the wire like DC or in the case of very high frequencies. As you said, with large transmitters, they use copper strap. I have videos (personal, not public) of facilities I’ve been responsible for where we start at the building foundation with runs of 32 inch wide copper strap. Thanks again! You have great patience in order to make these videos! Cheers!

****CAUTION**** PLEASE ALSO CONSIDER SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEMS !! EXPLICITLY BALLISTIC AIR BAGS AND OTHER COLLISION ACTIVATED RESTRAINTS!!! Excellent info regarding the ECM and sensor systems but please consider airbags! Working as an automotive alarm installer servicing dealerships, I have seen numerous cases of automotive aftermarket electronic installers having initiated airbag response systems! One case with great bodily injury that left the victim blinded in one eye and diminished permanent vision damage to the other eye!

Hello Fellow Amphaulics And SUPPORTERS OF THE WORLD FAMOUS BBI AMPS: MR. Luke, thank you for this video sir. IMHO this video demonstrates how important it is to properly layout & exercise accurate preparation of all sub assemblies prior to installation. I see you hydraulically crimped those braided wires & you will now dip them into the solder pot to seal the terminals to the braided wires to insure the ultimate connection. Another great video Luke. God Bless & my best to the family. TMP, Unit 22 from N.J.

Great vid BBI! What do you think about mounting the antenna on a post from the rear bumper or hitch that extends up to the level of the top of the cab? I realize it would be directional over the front but just wondering about how the performance and reflect would be. THANKS!
