It depends on your state’s requirements. For a PRIVATE school you can get hired without a teaching certification. For a PUBLIC school u need the certification which usually involves some sort of education degree and passing certain tests. So you could try applying for a private school with your current degree.

Hi! I'm about to graduate with a degree in psychology but I recently realized that I want to go into teaching, specifically drama in elementary or middle school. In addition to getting my teaching credentials and all that, would I also need to get some kind of degree in theater? Thank you!

It depends on your state but most states require you to have a certain amount of college credits in Theatre. So not necessarily a full degree in theatre but you would most likely need to take some college Theatre classes
