What a great video!! Thank you! One more tip, I'm a knitter, and every once in a while, I can find beautiful, natural fiber yarns, even hand dyed, for a small fraction of brand new at thrift stores. It takes patience, but if someone were to gift me gorgeous yarn I would be thrilled.

I haven't thrifted Christmas gifts yet, but all year, I thrift special baskets for my kids and grandkids for their Easter baskets. I found one that I looked up, and it is actually a piece of art worth over $400. My granddaughters mom has put it away for her for when she's older.

On the three Haviland dishes, I think they are porcelain. You must have wonderful Goodwills and thrift stores where you are. I live in a big city and we don't have any. You find very nice items.

My family knows I am a thrifter and they love my thrifted gifts! I am selective about who I give thrifted items as gifts. Not everyone is open to them. But my family knows I spent a lot of time searching for something I know they will love. I have long had more time than money, so thrifting works well for me.

Last Christmas I found a beautiful big jar with a lid for my daughter. I made her favorite cookie and filled the jar. First my son in law, I bought a Pyrex baking dish with lid at a thrift store. I filled it with his favorite cinnamon rolls. ❤

I'm fortunate that most of my family and friends are happy with thrifted gifts. We have a tiny gift budget, so buying this way means I can get something much nicer for my budget than if I were buying new - and if I find something under budget for one recipient, I can either stretch the budget for another, harder-to-buy-for person or just save the difference!

This year, I've purchased a set of 10 embossed readers digest books from the 1950 for my middle daughter, beautiful gold embossing on jewled toned books. 10.00 for the set. I've gotten a perfume bottle from the 1940s for my youngest daughter, 8.00. For my 20 year old grandson, I got a Vans skateboard from 1980, the graphics are in decent shape, he also is getting a vintage Frank Sinatra Album, total was 28.00. My eldest daughter is not a 2nd hand girl, but I did find her a snowbaby from 1987, she collects them. It was 4.00. perfect condition, still in the original green box. So, for 50.00, I've had a great time hunting down perfect gifts that my family will love.

I give food and gift cards. (Years ago we gave food and postage stamps to the elderly). Watch your cart! Last week, a shopper lifted a great find out of my cart in Phoenix. Theft was a big problem in Minnesota thrift stores when I lived there years ago. Cover the treasures in your cart with a big bath towel.

I can’t say I ever really find much of anything this nice locally in thrift stores. However, I’ve gifted slightly used items from my own home before. If I buy a lotion or body spray and maybe use it once and decide I don’t care for the scent I will gift it to family members as part of a gift basket (like my mom or mother in law and they know I’ve tried them). I’ve gifted wax warmers that I have used (but I use warmer liners so they are basically like new). Etc.

We love to thrift for our own needs as they arise. We buy NO gifts of “things for anyone, family included! We do only for children - and for them we only buy gift cards to local bookstores. We feel there is no reason to presume we know what someone else would want. What we think would be perfect is far more likely to be more unnecessary clutter for someone else!

I’ve said this in many videos but I never find these types of items in our local thrift stores. Most of what I see is very worn and you can tell they are used. Unfortunately as well, at least with one of our big thrift stores I’ve heard rumors that the staff steals the good quality items so it never makes it to the floor. 😢. People say it’s a known secret.

This is still clutter to me. My friends and family get gifts that are either edible or usable, so after a while, they are used up and don't clutter: chocolate, whine, artsy soaps or pretty kitchen towels. Certainly not decoration or clothes, since everyone has their own style and taste.
