Just discovered your channel and it's awesome! I love how you hit the sweet spot between Vlogs and pro coaching :D The advice and tips you come up with depending on the problem and situation combined with how well you articulate it is perfect. As an experienced climber I can learn much more from that than from general videos with broad tips. On top, the trying hard is super motivating. The topic I struggle with at the moment is how I can train hard without getting injured (again), so if you happen to talk about how you plan training sessions, load, volume, deload, etc I would be infinitely thankful. Keep it up, I love the videos!

What an awesome end to your Europe trip, looks super fun! You mentioned Josh and Jorg set that 8c+ with the hard start. At the Kletterzentrum is this common that routes are set by visiting coaches or others or is the majority of setting done by the local staff/coaches?

Love your vids! For kilter climbs, it would be cool if you listed the climbs / angle you did we we can try them too! Any tips on how to move out of/generate from slopers? Thanks!
@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
totally, I honestly just forgot the climbs names this time haha. For sloper, I try to generate most of my energy while I'm still below the hold and also notice the direction of the hold and align your hands/wrist's so you can maximize your grip on the hold.

@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
Thats a great question. I could do an entire video about that but in short, I have a couple routines (closing my eyes, taking a deep breath, and smiling) that help me to reset and stay present.
@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
I also like do some more intense deep breaths and smacking my hands against my legs and shoulder to get more energy flowing before a more intense boulder or if I'm just feeling lower energy in iso.

Recently you mentioned that you needed to remember how to breathe for lead climbing in regards to the season switch from bouldering. Could you talk more about intentional breathing? I’ve been trying different breath rhythms in my climbing because of your comment and I can see it’s the next level for me.
@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
Thats super cool to hear! I still have a lot of experimenting to do but In essence I use slow deep breaths (in through the nose and out through the mouth) to slow my heart rate and mind.

would be interesting to see how you find out what bodyposition is the best for a certain boulder. when im on the spraywall and im allowed to use "all the feed"/ outdoors, how do i find the easiest/best technical solution?
@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
I would say that trying to noticing what positions your in throughout your session makes it easier to notice the ideal position on harder boulders. It definitely takes time to build that habit but practicing being more aware of your body makes it much easier to break down movement. It's alos helpful to watch world cup replays to see what movement patters other hight level climbers use.

Love these vids with lifestyle mixed in. Been thinking about how many indoor boulders are right arm-centric (left arm is just for setting up right arm moves) - how can we train our left sides to prevent muscle imbalance?
@MP-bx3uj
@MP-bx3uj Жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed this same issue with lead routes! It’s a bit frustrating to me.
@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
Thanks and you’re totally right about right arm centric moves. Even in world cups, we get a lot more right moves. I just try a make up an even balance of moves on the spray wall and repeat hard left hand moves when they are set to get more experience

Tips for you tips (managing skin tips and tricks)? it would be nice to hear from different comp climber how they manage their skin issues during training but also during multi day comps with all these fibreglass and skin destroing moves. Any special secret? antihydral? unicorn tears? more expressos?

When you finally stick limit moves, how do you accept the win but also not take it for granted?
@Ross-Fulkerson
@Ross-Fulkerson Жыл бұрын
interesting question. I wold say I limit I use the momentum and psyched from sticking hard moves to try and stick other hard moves. If it's really hard and you are fully focused on the movement, it's hard to take anything for granted because it's so intentional.
