What runic system in Fantasy do you like best?

i really like the runic magic system in the manga 'witch hat atelier', because it does timing very well runes are activated once the circle around them is closed this means you can cast spells instantaneously by drawing them and completing the circle, or you can prepare them by not finishing the circle until you want to activate the effect, but it also leads to some other creative uses, like having two halves of a flying rune on both of your shoes and pressing them together completes the circle, allowing witches to fly by pressing together their boots (so long as the rune-halves stays intact)

MAGIC & TIMING: I appreciated how you discussed the timing of runes. My magic system doesn't have immediate magic, and I am really struggling with how to use magic in my world because of that. If you ever want to cover that topic, I'd love it --potions, brews, curses, prophecies, magical items, rituals --all have a delay to their use from the magic creation...and thus, aren't as easily used in a fight or something. I will have to listen to your music, ritual and magical item videos to see if I gain any insight or inspiration there. CHANNEL NAME: I'm really curious what made you choose the name "Just in Time Worlds" or what you mean by it. Thanks!

Hello There! So in my urban fantasy world, I'm playing with a magic system (for the humans anyway) that is based on non-immediate magic. What I've found is that the biggest difference it makes to my mages is that they are all planners. They prepare for the day by preparing their spells / items etc ahead of time. They carry certain utility items on their person. And they all have guns because just in case. I have actually got videos on a whole bunch of non-immediate magic. Rituals: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5C8qYd4e7tkrrs Items that channel magic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIq3ZoiDfKdpmdE Magical Items 101: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIvcl4unitaGbZY Consumable magic items (scrolls etc): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHyamniuo7Gaoc0 Artifact magic items: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opS3dqOOdtdkqtk But I might just do a video at some point on immediate magic vs non-immediate magic and the how it alters the personality and culture of your magic users. Channel Name: Once upon a horrible time, I went into corporate management. And I learned all about the Just In Time Supply Chain, the method used by Toyota first and then incorporated world wide to not keep excess inventory on hand. So when I made this channel, I figured I'd call it Just In Time Worlds, the place where you go to get inspiration for the specific thing you're world building, just in time to build it :)

It’s because in my native tongue, vowels are pronounced flat and in the front of the mouth.

I'm considering making a system for a video game where the Glyphs/Runes are pictographs representing a specific magical effect. The more powerful the glyph, the better the effect. These will be incorporated into circles for spells or rituals, or used on their own for basic magical effects, like heating water.

Nice so kind of like naming magic but in written form. I could definitely get behind that
@ancapftw9113
@ancapftw9113 2 жыл бұрын
@@JustInTimeWorlds kind of a symbolic magic system, where the glyphs represent a concept and set the pattern of the magic. Though I suppose people in world could see it as just an aid to get the mage's mind into the correct pattern, like the spoken part of a spell (which makes it more efficient and easier to cast but isn't nessecery) or the ritual involved in some spells. Certain magical traditions will also use monster parts or herbs or sacred/magical items in place of the runes/glyphs, so I don't know if it is technically a runic magic system.

@@ancapftw9113 it sounds like a snazzy system. Especially in a game where you can run around looking for pictographs and adding them to whatever you cast from. Tattoos maybe?

@@JustInTimeWorlds for permanent buffs, or the equivalent of a power you have or a scroll you always have on you, tattoos would be a great thing to add.

I had been struggling with a number of issues and even though I haven't worked through them as of this writing, this gave me the template, insight, and outline to gather my thoughts. Thank you! In my setting I have runes that act kind of like dna, a code or a mold. The magic flows through them and the shape of that magic determines the spell.

I don't want to be pedantic, but... You're mispronouncing the word "rune" - it's not pronounced like "ruin", there's no i. "Roon", not "roo-in".

In English Rune is pronounced "roon", a ruin is a dilapidated building. No offence meant and not wishing to be picky but it is rather off-putting listening to that pronunciation over and over again in an otherwise excellent presentation. Subscribed.

@@JustInTimeWorlds You where mixing up two English words. A ruin is a building that has been destroyed. To ruin is to destroy something. While a rune (with a pronounced e at the end in the Nordic languages, although I guess it might be silent in English)

@@rattleshakti You guys don't pronounce the final e like we do in the Nordic languages? It's so weird how English speakers always insists on treating the last e in a word as silent, also when trying to pronounce our languages, the e at the end of a word being silent isn't a thing in Germanic languages other then English...
