Job Options For AGACNP Nurse Practitioners

Bree, Glad to be your first viewer. This topic is, of course, so timely for me! The California law regulating nurse practitioner education states "The nurse practitioner education program shall arrange for clinical instruction and supervision of the student."* This includes out-of-state programs which have been approved by the Board to have students in California. Most CA students do not know this. I had to gently remind my school of this and after some initial resistance, they came through. (I think they realized they didn't want to risk losing their California authori$ation.) However, the MD they "arranged for" backed out mid-semester because... let's just say his expectations and the school's (and mine) were different. Now they are scrambling to find someone else (as am I), but the clock is ticking. I finally used a preceptor-finding agency and the NP seems really great. I'm not happy about spending more money but I'm hoping this can be a bridge to finding a non-paid preceptor for future semesters. I've also asked the school not to stop looking since this preceptor probably won't be available after this semester. Yes! They place you. Each semester I would get a list of all the options and could choose. Literally like a kid in a candy store. I asked if I could do more than one to get exposure and build my resume and they were happy to let me do that. It was a shallow dive in a bunch of settings. Worth every penny.
