Hlo mam....iam aspiring to get the seat in iisc through iit jam... chemistry... for integrated PhD chemistry but I didn't have Maths in 10+2 level do i eligible for that

Yes, you are right. The IISC admission site clearly states that Maths in 10+2 level is a necessary criteria for Masters as well as PhD. You can go through the following site for more clarity. iisc.ac.in/admissions/ph-d-integratedprogrammes/#ffs-tabbed-12 However, if you are good in maths and can prove that in some way, you might stand a chance for interview. Not guaranteed, but may be.

Hi, If you join after B.Tech, then the official course will be 5 years. If its after B.Sc, then it is 7 years.

No, I did not have a concrete topic in my mind. I knew which areas the projects could be from. After we joined, projects were floated by the Profs who were interested in taking PhD students and we chose from those projects. If you spend time learning something in detail, you will love it. You can only learn about the research that the future supervisor has done. If the supervisor is into teaching for many years, lab and funding is also well settled. You can talk with the supervisor and students working under the supervisor to understand his ideology, and see whether it suits you.

How to select research topic

You might probably know this, but try to find gaps in the studies that are done. Like maybe certain dependence of certain parameter on some quantity has not been considered, or has very few studies published. And then your research topic could be to study the effect of that paramter on the quantity. So when you are interested in Robotics control system, first think what are the ideal characteristics that you desire. Like may be fast response of the system when feedback or input changes is desired. So you can think how you could improve the response, your ideas of improving it. So initially random paper reading will give you sense of the terms that are being used by others, keywords for searching papers. And then you can check what methods other people have tried and what results they got (literature survey). And then you can define the research problem. You won't get it ready in any paper. Few papers mention future scope/ further studies. Or you can read PhD thesis/ Mtech thesis and they will mention what further studies could be carried out. And you can always talk to profs in that area, they might have idea where the research is oriented. Review papers are a good place to start to get a general idea about how research has been progressing. Hope this is of help, unless you already knew this.

Could you please let us know how you were able to do phd after btech (what exams should we write and pass ), is there a interview? how did youbget selected ?and what are the other ways and the eligibility criteria. Also do we get to choose the guide and the topic for phd?

Sure, admission for direct Phd are done though GATE itself. Yes, interviews are conducted. And while applying you need letter of recommendation also. Answer to the last question depends on lot of factors. There should be vacancy under the professor, allotment of guides varies from dept to dept within IISc itself. Choice of topic, iit should align with the expertise and interest of the professor. It also depends on individual professor, so no general answer can be given. it is better to discuss this once you start appearing for interviews and when depts and colleges are shortlisted. Eligibility details you should find in the ordinance documents of particular colleges.

@@user-be1tv3ck7y Anyone can apply. Who they short list and call for interviews, depends on Gate score and previous academic record. Rest depends on the interview. Which score has probability to get called for interview depends on your branch. If it is mechanical then I guess score around 70 or above has a good chance. But that again depends on the difficulty level every year.
