Hi guys. 1st of all… thanks for watching and for all the great comments and questions. Many of you have asked if we considered the Americanizer adapter along with a short sewer hose in the hose storage area. I thought I’d pin a comment so everyone can see where we’re coming from and why we chose not to travel with this pretty cool product. Yes we did consider it. It is an ingenious design… simple and works with a purpose. For an Ekko or bigger RV I’d say it would be worth the storage for us. It’s not just the size of the adapter… it is but not totally… it’s also about the hose you have to carry… and what you can’t store in the tube that the hose would have to be stored in… (where we store our propane bottles and Thermocell). We find that we empty the grey tank about 1/3 of the time that we empty the cassette toilet so washing out the hose with grey water after dumping would be an issue for us. And we rarely park at a site in a way that would allow us to empty the grey tank without having to spin the seats and move the van. All of these factors added together means it would not travel with us because it would not work for our way of traveling. We realize that everyone travels differently. And we always advise folks to travel several times with just the bare bones to find “their” style before investing in accessories or modifications. We use every square inch of the van’s storage and every item has to serve at least 1 good purpose, whether that’s keeping us or the van clean, keeping us fed, allowing us to film and edit, or taking care of the waste water.If we had more storage it would be something we’d consider as providing that one good purpose. I’d say if you have room you should try the Americanizer and a collapsible sewer hose. That’s why we don’t currently use that cool product. But… what do you guys think? -Owen

My favorite cassette moment was when my six year decided she wanted to use the van toilet instead of the house toilet, at the same time I had just taken it out for a proper cleaning and airing. Nice little gift awaited me a few days later when I went to put it back in!

Hi to you all. I also like the cassette toilet easy to dump anywhere. Also a funny story, our first dump at a RV park 4 years ago. I set the cap to close to the 4” pipe and while dumping it the cap rolled right down the 4” in drain. I didn’t have enough hands to stop it while dumping the tank 😂 So I recommend putting the cap in a safe place. Thanks for sharing your tips.

My first trailer was a 20-ft bunkhouse that I bought used from a dealership. The sensors in the black tank were always troublesome, so one day my husband took some sewer cleaning gear and a high pressure power washer and gave it a very thorough cleaning. Turns out the previous owner never gave it a thorough cleaning and a huge fungal mat had grown inside the tank. It took a couple hours but my husband got this broken up and cleaned out. Because of this when I decided to downsize to my tab trailer I bought used again, but I insisted on one with a cassette toilet. I never wanted to deal with an underbelly black tank again. I traded in my old trailer on the tab trailer this past October and had to winterize immediately, so I haven't had a chance to take it out yet. But I have played with the toilet cassette and I think this will work far better for me and my arthritis. Thank you for this very helpful video!

No need to be afraid. We do use solution inside the toilet for the smell some work better than others I also put little car febreze air freshens inside the bathroom to also help. A lot people say to add a little water to the toilet after you use it to seal the trap and that will also help. We do notice the smell more when the cassette is more full.

We don't have a travel trailer yet but are in the final decision making process. We are considering a TAB 400 and a TAB 320 CS-S. Not having owned an RV before our only experience is with a Class C motor home that we rented for 2 weeks several years ago. I did the dumping of the black tank and it didn't seem that bad. One of my biggest concerns about the TAB 320 is the cassette toilet. But honestly after watching the several videos that you have done on the subject, I'm not concerned at all. And honestly with some planning, it seems like a better way to go. The trick you showed of setting the cassette down and then doing a dry run to line it up is brilliant and it took the aiming anxiety out of using this kind of system. Thanks for your channel. I just discovered it and I'm really enjoying it a lot. My wife and I hope to have our unit early next year so hope to see you on the road.

Great video. We have been so hesitant in buying a Thor Sanctuary, over a Roadtrek Zion SRT - for two reasons. The SRT is built slightly Bette and more “rich” but primarily due to a good old fashioned black tank. Last week we decided to say forget it let’s buy the Sanctuary as we prefer to have 4x4 and a nicer driving Sprinter. Then seeing this video now helps us in knowing we probably didn’t make the wrong crap shoot lol.

The Thor Sanctuary looks awesome. We didn’t know if we would like the cassette toilet when we first bought the revel but now I don’t think we would want to go back and look for places to dump all the time and since we use the van for a daily driver being able to dump at home has been great. Good luck with your Thor.

I'm building my own camper van and we installed the cassette toilet. I was worried on where to empty it, I'm not looking forward to get inside a Walmart walking with the cassette in front of everyone .. :D I think I will focus on use a rest area, or trails restrooms. Also, I designed and 3d printed an adapter for the Dometic cassette to sewer hose, so I can just use that to empty it on a dump site, with less spill, but didnt try it yet (there is a guy that sells the "Americanizer" but is for the therefor casette toilets)
@briizcustoms95432 жыл бұрын
Can this be hooked up to a sewer like you dump a regular tank?

@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Yes we did. It is an ingenious design… simple and works with a purpose. For an Ekko or bigger RV I’d say it would be worth the storage for me. It’s not just the size the adapter… it’s more the hose you have to carry… and what you can’t store in the tube that the hose would have to be stored in… and we empty the grey tank about 1/3 of the time that we empty the cassette toilet so washing out the hose would be an issue for us… and we rarely park at a site in a way that would allow us to empty the grey tank without having to spin the seats and move the van… whew… all of these added together means it would not travel with us because it would not work for our way of traveling. We use every square inch of the van’s storage and every item has to serve at least 1 good purpose, whether that’s keeping us or the van clean, keeping us fed, allowing us to film and record or taking care of the tanks. But if we had more storage it would be something we’d consider as providing that one good purpose. I’d say if you have room you should try the Americanizer and a collapsible sewer hose. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for watching and commenting. -Owen

What is the blade opener switch on top?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Жыл бұрын
It allows it to be opened and cleaned (more thoroughly)

Our usual place to stay is at a state campground. There, we'll either have access to a 4" sewer hole...OR a campground toilet. Do you recommend that we avoid putting TP into the cassette? (sorta like how you do #2 in Mexico..you put TP in a wastepaper basket). was wondering about this if you get a "blocked pipe" when dumping it out.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Жыл бұрын
To be honest we don’t do #2 that often in the van, we try to find other places… but when we do we use TP and have never had a problem, but that maybe due to us not using that much TP.

“… a little bleurg into there…” Bah! these old imperial measures! What’s that in metric? 😂 Thanks for some great tips, very useful for a total newb like me. I especially like the lining up the spout to the drain before removing the cap 👍 Thanks!

You’re very welcome Dennis. Glad it helps. Here’s to days and days of non-brown shoes and socks while dumping.

In metric it's 1 theford sachet every 4-5 days :)

It would help if the holding-tank opening was at least twice as large. This way your “aim” would not have to be as precise. Thanks for the video.

OK bought a spare cassette in d Vance of our Ekko delivery. When I try your method the aiming is spot on. However when we push the vent button fluid comes out of the vent button. Are you waiting to vent until your sure the vent is going to be only air?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Жыл бұрын
Yes, you have to wait until it empties below the blue button or "stuff" will escape there. Also, make sure the blue button is at the highest point not the lowest and that helps. We also try to not to fill up the cassette that full too... it helps with that issue and it is not as heavy to carry and empty. Good luck with it.

thank you! luckily we were just testing with water. glad we practiced! @@VANTREKKINGlifestyle

Also sit on the ground right next to the dump hole to get as many germs on you as possible.

This answered all the questions I had about dumping a cassette toilet. I've decided that 5 gallons isn't enough for me as I am a "heavy crapper". Looks like I'll be having a 50 gallon tank installed in my school bus.

Wish that was a HAHA 😂 button. Too funny. BTW this is Owen and I just replied while on the crapper. Small world. It works for us but there are compromises for sure. Good luck with your bud build. We've always wanted to do that.

Was thinking of adding the Americanizer that FitRV invented. Have you ever considered it or no need because you are used to the dumping process? Thought the idea of using the hose and then flushing the cassette out with the gray tank was a great idea.
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Жыл бұрын
We own one. Don't travel with it. We dump cassette about every 3-4 days and dump the grey only about every 2 weeks so it wouldn't work for us that way. But the product works well.
