My hair doesn't retain length mainly because 1. I'm scissor-happy. If I see the smallest split or knot it has to go 2. I am a thalassemia carrier so have low ferritin and haemoglobin. 3. I'm autistic so have neurodivergent stress making my hair grow slow and fall out due to an interrupted growth cycle. 4. I have low vitamin D from having black skin and living somewhere with very little sunlight all year. I look after my hair better than most people I know but they do not have my body or brain or scissor happy hands. Lol!

I have fine high porosity 4c very dry hair. My ends are always splitting no matter how much I try to protect them. My hair usually breaks off a lot in the crown area, also dry frizzy ends. I have since grown out my crown area by washing my hair more frequently, trying to trim the split and wearing mini twist extension braids. I love silk presses but it will only last about a day. Do you recommend any products to achieve better moisture and less breakage? Thank you! I really enjoyed your video!
@shadesbyshavonda
@shadesbyshavonda 4 күн бұрын
Hi! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Here are a few general tips: Focus on Moisture Retention Use Shampoos and Deep conditioners with humectants like glycerin and aloe. Deep condition weekly, focusing on those dry, frizzy ends to lock in moisture. Use a heat cap or hooded dryer during deep conditioning for better penetration. Use lightweight moisturizing creams and seal in moisture with a lightweight oil (argan oil or grapeseed oil) before twisting. You can also use bond repair treatments every 4-6 weeks to strengthen the hair structure, especially in the crown. Make sure you’re gentle in that area-use a wide-tooth comb or finger detangle only. Your silk press most likely doesn’t last because your hair isn’t properly hydrated. Once your hair becomes more healthy, your silk press should last longer. When using heat, always use a leave in conditioner and heat protectants. Use a lightweight serum before blow-drying and flat ironing to fight frizz and extend the press. Limit silk presses to special occasions and always deep condition beforehand for hydration. Include healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and salmon in your diet to nourish your hair from within. Stay hydrated and consider supplements like biotin or omega-3s if needed. (Consult with your doctor first) Let me know if you would like any product recommendations. Hope this helps.

Do this, find a protective style you like. Do mini box braids on your natural hair, you can wash, condition and deep condition your hair in these, if needed. Keep the braids in for a while, there's so many videos out there of women, and men, personally my bf because I do his hair, growing there hair in this style, hair manipulation causes breakage, moisturize the ends of your hair more since it's the oldest part of your hair, you'll see results. Me, I am doing a 3 month growth challenge, I'm keep my cornrows in for 3 months, and washing and conditioning every week if I can, 😊

My hair is natural and very fine. I find that tangling is my biggest issue. I use the keracare detangling mist regularly to detangle but sometimes it doesn’t seem to helping as much as it should. My hair strands snap easily despite using olaplex every 2 weeks.i used to use the meile mint and rosemary oil but i find its a tad to heavy so i now use the olaplex styling oil which is too light. Any advice would be really helpful.
@shadesbyshavonda
@shadesbyshavonda 2 күн бұрын
Hi. Here are some general tips that may help: If Keracare Detangling Mist isn’t cutting it, try products with more slip like Kinky-Curly Knot Today Leave-In/Detangler to help detangle fine hair without breakage. Always work in small sections while detangling to reduce tension and breakage. Use Your Fingers First: Before using tools, finger-detangle to minimize snapping. Then use a wide-tooth comb or a flexible detangling brush. Olaplex is great for bond repair, but fine hair can become overly stiff if overloaded with protein-like treatments. Cut back to using it once a month instead of biweekly. Are you using oil to seal in moisture?

Hi Shavonda thanks for getting back to me.I currrently use the olaplex styling oil and pink moisturizer, that’s it really. I was using the meile oil but found it a bit heavy . Sometimes I make my own mixture of rosemary oil , clove oil, peppermint, tea tree and an extra virgin olive oil but I’m just using olaplex and the pink oil at the moment.

Looove the video. I struggle with dry itchy scalp no matter what I do. I don’t even have flakes but it’s always sooo itchy. And I’m thinking of getting a sew in. I know it will be a night mare but I want one sooo bad! Any tips?
@shadesbyshavonda
@shadesbyshavonda 10 күн бұрын
Hi, I definitely would recommend (if it’s not flakes and simply dry scalp) preparing your scalp with a specialized shampoo for itchy scalp, making sure that whatever hair you use for the sew in has been soaked and is clean so that you don’t experience an allergic reaction from the hair. Try using a hydrating spray if your scalp starts to feel itchy. When it comes to dryness, you should add moisture first with a water based product. Think of your scalp like the rest of the skin on your body. If your skin is dry, you’re not necessarily going to slather on oils - you’re going to find a way to hydrate it first with something water-based. And you may need to increase your water intake.

Thank you for all the tips!😃 I need help with damaged hair. My hair is very damaged especially in the front, more so than the back. I have breakage far up the shaft of my hair in certain areas some near the root, it’s not readily seen when I wear it out in a curly from because it looks pretty full but I know my hair and it’s not at its healthiest. I was tempted to cut all of my hair off and start all over but I’d really rather not. How can I save my hair, strengthen it, and bring it back the health of it without having to cut it off, if possible.

My hair is the same way super healthy long and thick in the back but I have heat damage in the front. My stylist recommended cutting the front 1/2 inch once a month to help get rid of the damage. I also treat my hair with protein treatments and keep it moisturized. This will be a slow process but I don’t want to cut all my hair off when my back id super healthy and not far from waist length

How to reatin length when i trim my ends now its been 3 mths later or so and my hair has grown back now its time to cut my ends again thats my problem i feel like im always cutting off my growth. I just cut my ends in November yes it was needed but now my hair is so short im jot complaining but i am like ugh here we go again I feel like my hair should be longer.
@shadesbyshavonda
@shadesbyshavonda 6 күн бұрын
@yazmynebright5892 Preventing dryness and breakage is key to retaining length. It starts with a focus on nourishing your hair from the inside out while maintaining a consistent routine Try to drink enough water every day to keep your hair hydrated from within. Dehydration can lead to brittle strands. Eat for Hair Health: •Protein: Strengthens hair strands (e.g., eggs, lean meats, beans). •Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Adds elasticity and shine (e.g., salmon, walnuts). •Vitamins A, C, D, E: Promote scalp health and moisture retention (e.g., carrots, citrus fruits, spinach). •Zinc and Iron: Prevent breakage and thinning (e.g., seeds, legumes). Supplements: If needed, take biotin, collagen, or a hair-specific multivitamin to fill any nutritional gaps. (Consult with your doctor first) As far as your routine, ✅ Use sulfate-free shampoos ✅ Deep Condition Regularly: Weekly treatments with a balance of moisture and protein keep hair hydrated and strong. ✅ Always use a leave in to add an additional layer of moisture ✅ Minimize Heat Styling: Limit heat use to once a week or less and always apply a heat protectant. ✅ Protect Your Hair: Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase and wear protective styles to reduce friction and breakage. Also be mindful of friction from sources we don't think of such as car seats, sofa, collars, scarves, etc.. This is general advice. Hope it helps.

I am having trouble with my 6 year old's hair. My and my other 2 daughters have medium to low porosity hair. She has high porosity hair. I am trying to find ways to keep the length retention for her and sometimes it's a little hard. Her hair is also about a 4c . It's thick but not coarse. I have recently started her on wash n go's as well using creme of nature argan oil shampoo, creme of nature argan oil deep conditioner, TGIN green tea leaves in conditioner, mousse def foam, and blue magic indian hemp hair grease to try to seal in the moisture. The moisture runs out fast. Also do you think she needs a protein treatment or use a bonding deep conditioner. I do straighten her hair every 8 weeks so I can clip her ends. I need help.
@shadesbyshavonda
@shadesbyshavonda 9 күн бұрын
When it comes to high porosity hair, the focus is definitely on moisture and hydration. A good hydrating shampoo is design essentials honey crème . You can use my link to purchase it here amzn.to/3CZ2U4e This is a good moisturizing conditioner amzn.to/3OB9kcv How often do you shampoo? I would recommend using a moisturizing lotion instead of grease to seal in moisture. I recommend that you braid or twist her hair so that it’s not left to do what it wants to do (which may lead to tangles) if that makes sense. She shouldn’t need bond repair products because you’re not using heat often. Is her hair hard to detangle? There are so many factors that come into play.

I have hair like this high porosity and ultra fine and high density. I can't wear wash and go's all of the time. It dries out my hair especially in winter but also in the summer sun. I deep condition every week and I put a leave in conditioner in ever day. No amount of sealing works for me. It needs to be leave-in mist and a small amount of leave-in cream every day. She's probably too young for protein or bond builders. the main thing is moisture. I had to go to a trichologist to find out that I should be applying moisture daily when most other people do not do this with their hair.

Hi, this can be due to several reasons such as medications, extreme weight loss, heredity, scalp health, hair care practices, diet & nutrition and stress. It sounds like further testing may need to be done. You also may want to consult with a trichologist or endocrinologist.

I’m trying to get to waist length eventually, but I want it to be healthy as well. I find that the backs my hair tends to be longer and healthier than the front, is that normal?
@shadesbyshavonda
@shadesbyshavonda 8 күн бұрын
@tamaragrant3484 Yes, I see this often because we tend to manipulate the front of our hair more than the back or the middle. And it’s not necessarily that the front of your hair is shorter, it could be the same length, but when you use a visual reference point (your shoulders for example), the hair in the back seems longer because it doesn’t have to grow as long on length to reach your shoulders than the hair in the front if that makes sense
@tamaragrant3484
@tamaragrant3484 8 күн бұрын
Yes I understand because if I stretch the back of my hair it’s at like mid back, but the front part is at like my chin so. Is it ok to spray my hair everyday in the crochet style. I like it because I can still moisturize my hair. In my spray bottle I have distilled water, leave in conditioner and a little glycerin, and aloe Vera juice
