Nice one! Other tips : Use blacklight for awesome effects. Garden RGB washer are IP66 waterproofs, and some are even daylight balanced (!)... probably not 100% flicker-free tho, but at 25 bucks a pop, they even come with an handy remote :O Get a shit ton of those. Abandoned backyards from used-to-be factories are amazing for post-apocalyptic settings. You rarely have any permission to ask. If there is no warning about cameras, and nothing seems to be going on, nothing is going on there... careful if you wanna go in tho ;) To make a seamless transition from a doorway to some scene inside and have to use two locations for it - for instance a garage and an abandoned doorway - it's very simple, cover-up the door with a green screen, shoot the location from the inside with a 50mm (corresponding to the human FOV), and mask everything but the door's silhouette in post. Use cheap isolation foam (blue or pink, white is a mess to clean, don't touch it this stuff is from hell) to make easily breakable doors, steel batons, anything like that. Used in Hollywood to make rocks with a heat saw (hot, tensed wire, the only thing a decent human being can use to cut foam with, easy to make). Simple things are best : fake pupils on a weird looking dude, you're only a couple brush-strokes away from creating some alien. Oh, and Nerf guns are the #1 source of gun props in the world, some major TV shows and movies included. They don't cost a lot. And you just need to paint them flat black, and add some silver scratches and wrapped dirty coton as necessary. Pocket lights are awesome and cost 10 bucks. Old, crappy lenses makes excellent fake canons. Abandoned cars make for great space-ship interiors when lit-up - of if your friend is a custom car lover, those guys seems to love dashboard that looks like they've been made in Pluto, and the black lights and RGBs goodness is pre-installed, always a bonus. I think that's all I have to share with you guys :)

Very useful video. Recently, I changed to the "vlogging style" telling a story through a video series to bring realism. But, now Im really missing the cinematic feel. Another reason I switched over to vlogs was that not much people would put the time out of there day to watch my long movies.

I totally feel you man. After a while I just kind of stopped caring about if people would watch or not, and just did it because I wanted to. Might not bring as many viewers but I like doing it so oh well! lol Thanks for watching!

Hey brother, i'm planning to shoot a sci fi film as well. I did my first.want and it turn out to be a parody and everyone laughed at it. Had to overcome that trauma i went through but decided to overcome and create a better want. Any tips to improve on sci fi films?

I know this is a year late but a lot of the attraction of the genre is the tension and that can be created with so little. If you need any tips on that, you can watch the M.Night Shyamalan film 'Signs' which makes good use of simple sound editing and not much else.. If your film is low-budget, you could try to film it in one location and keep the audience hooked on that suspense just from that one place. 'Signs' is not purely science-fiction but is a good example of the effective building of suspense which you see a lot of in other sci-fi classics. That is my advice but I am sure you will find a way to make your future films better. Hope all goes well.

Could you please link the image of the rocket windows and glasses you used through which we see the booster and all that . Thanks. And also if you could do a tutorial on how you cut out the extra space of black background , that would really be helpful.

This was awesome! I have always wanted to make films but I can't decide what camera to use. I am thinking about a DLSR or something similar and would like to find something less than $700. Do you have any recommendations for a beginner? Thanks for any help you can give me. Love watching your videos!

Your phone camera is a great place to start, phone cams these days are realy good for short films. i would seriously focus on that and practise editing and effects and then get a camera along the way !
@alexandraboulas6739 Жыл бұрын
you can always look for cameras for rent in your area - you can rent some extremely good cameras during a shoot (as well as some lower budget ones) and get a feel for what you like and what you prefer to use before making the leap to buying a camera.

This video is an oxymoron. The computer visual effects don't match up with the low budget costumes, props, and sets. To make a truly low budget movie, throw away the computer!

@@LostUtopiaFilms he's right tho the contrast takes you out of it completely and makes the low budget props stand out in comparison making it look even cheaper somehow
