Stay lose. Most people tense up when they start and then they struggle. I also found this to be very important over the years, I am old, frequently turn your drawing upside down, stand back and look at it. That makes it easier to see what you are missing for the balance of the design and you also will see your mistakes much easier. Use a #2 pencil and a Pentel white eraser. The white eraser removes lines pretty good as to not confuse you when you go to lay down new drawing lines. This is helped me through the years. Learned it from a wonderful art teach about the upside down thing in 1965 and it's worked for me that long. Good luck.

Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and experience. Want to share an idea that might help others. It would be helpful if you produce some videos about the components of a Sheridan drawing. Some videos that describe the parts and the motivation for creating different designs. Eg. 'This is a vine. We draw it like this. Allot of times this type has tendrils and thorns. We can use a camouflager and veiner to create the spiral center and the movement of the curved vine.' etc. You could do the different types of vines, leaves, flowers, nuts, thorns, etc. And what type of tool you use. I noticed in one of your instructional videos, you put circles in various places with a seeder.i saw what you did, but didn't understand why and what you were trying to emulate in nature. You're one of the best leather carvers. I know it's allot of work, but having all the breakdown would give you subject matter and give the viewers a better understanding of the botanical parts, when and why to use the specific tools and how we might put those parts together to create a pattern. Thank you

After watching this video a month ago, I decided to draw every day for 30 days. I did make some improvement, but I couldn't believe how difficult it was. It LOOKS simple, but it's not. Here's a short video showing my progress: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZeVnKeBfrGaarc

The course is broke down into 12 different videos making it easier for you to walk through the different steps at your own pace. The goal with this course is not to turn you into a great artist in a matter of hours. That is still going to require an extensive amount of work on your part. I do however, want to give you tools for that work! We will be implementing a framework that you can use to then eventually develop your own style. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to artwork but there are some important guidelines that can make it much easier to accomplish the overall task of filling space while appealing to the eye. By the end of this course you should have a basic understanding of the fundamentals in drawing floral tooling patterns. We will be covering key components of pattern design including layout, flow, and balance. In addition to helping you draw your own patterns, this course will help you see other patterns in line art form for what they are intended to be. You will be able to change out certain space fillers in a pattern to give some of your favorite patterns a new twist. You will in turn be able to work on both your drawing and your tooling, enabling you to really enhance your leathercraft game!
