11:45 Is the single "r" sound a full tongue roll, or more of a tongue "flick"? I don't know if I'm just misinterpreting the sound, but it seems to vary from person to person, similar to the "eh/ay" and "oh/aw" of open/closed e's and o's. I would just like some clarification, if possible. The way that you guys differentiate the single and double "r's" is very easy to interpret, but I've noticed many native speakers here on youtube seem to roll every single R. The single "r" sound seems, to my ears, in the vein of Japanese "Ra, Ri, Ru, Re, Ro." The wikipedia page, *"Voiced dental and alveolar taps and flaps,"* lists Spanish and Portuguese featuring this pronunciation, but not Italian, so I would like to correct my pronunciation immediately. Thank you for the podcast!

Ciao 👋 There is definitely a difference between a single R and a double R in Italian in that the sound of the double R is more prolonged than a single R. However, the single R is a full tongue roll, more than just a simple "flick" as you said. You might have noticed some variations in the pronunciation of this letter among native speakers because of regional accents. For example, in Calabria, the R is very much rolled and it can be hard to differentiate when it's a single R or a double R. In some regions of the North of Italy, people don't roll their Rs and they produce more of a French R, so to speak. We hope this helps, but let us know if you have further questions about pronunciation 😀
